    I overheard a colleague being congratulated for cycling a whole 3km to the office every day and celebrated as a “sustainability hero” and he was visibly embarrassed.
    The bar for individual action is in hell for most people in Europe. A remarkable amount of people have done absolutely nothing to change their lifestyles to stop climate change.

    @juliette The most depressing thing is when you interact with a US referential.

    I work for a US company, and they had an earth week (I think), with points for things like biking to work, not using the car, or filling the tumbler for drying laundry. There was no entry for biking to work for 20 years, or drying your laundry with the sun (it was around May).

    I won the competition, I felt dirty…

    @thias @juliette When I worked in the US, I cycled to the office as usual. My coworkers were compensated for things like car parking and other expenses related to motor vehicles. Nothing about bicycles in the policy. After a pothole claimed yet another bicycle tyre, I started submitting my commuting expenses anyway, and I was reimbursed. Nobody ever said anything to me about it.

    @owl

    I found out I was the first person at my old employer to ever claim business mileage for cycling rather than driving when they paid me the 45p/mile car rate because although I’d filled the form in honestly the payroll was incapable of doing the 20p/mile bicycle rate. That lasted about a year.

    @TimWardCam @thias @juliette I'm in small apartment without balcony so I have only line in my bathroom... But I learnt I don't need things dry the same or next day, they just could wait several days. It's good cooling in hot days without any costs, literally colder air layer around like it radiated some anti-energy. I still wonder how to distribute humidity around apartment as I often have dry air problem in Winter, it would be nice somehow help it passively.

    @madargon @thias @juliette I bought the dehumidifier to keep the mould down and hence allergic reactions, but it does help dry the laundry quite effectively as well.

    In the UK there is never a problem with the air being too dry. Here's a graph of the RH in our greenhouse for a year - we don't water plants in winter so that's pretty well going to be the outdoor humidity.

    Humidity graph showing that for some days in the summer the daily maximum does drop below 100%. But not for most months in the year.
