So based on the answers I’m getting, I think I need someone to #ExplainLikeImThree actually.

Can anyone #ExplainLikeImFive the PHP thing? Or is there an explainer for non-tech people available anywhere?

🎵It’s the most wonderful time of the year🎵 i.e. that time in late October when we can all complain that shops put out Christmas decorations too early.

WTF.
Deux pays sur 27 ne peuvent pas se permettre de prendre des décisions pour l’Union entière.
Le Made in Europe c’est bien, mais le Made in Europe dans un monde qui brûle, ça ne sert à rien.

I need EU citizens to see see this one 😂
A French member of Parliament is proposing to raise the French contribution to the EU by 4.5m€ to compensate the amount stolen from the EU Parliament by Marine Le Pen and her party.
France may run out of money, but we will do it in the most sarcastic way available to us.

Stunning to hear people who never figured out how to do a decent web search suddenly talk casually about "high quality prompts" with AI.

I do not (I think) have perimenopause yet, but all my friends who do have drilled into my brain all these symptoms, so that was pretty striking to read.

I hit my head pretty hard today and checked the list of immediate symptoms of concussion, for which I hit 0 out of 9, which is great.
But concussions can manifest a few days later and the symptoms for that are:
Trouble with concentration & memory
Irritability & other personality changes
Sensitivity to light & noise
Trouble with sleep
Feeling emotional or depressed
Changes in taste & smell
And 5 out of 6 of these are symptoms of #perimenopause so how is a middle aged lady supposed to know?

Knowing what I know now, I realise that genuinely, some babies don’t enjoy being babies while others are great at it. It would be great as a first-time parent to have the benefit of hindsight and know that it’s not you, it’s them. And the fact that some other baby is easy is not because that kid’s parents are great.

The crying and not-sleeping wouldn’t change but psychologically it would be easier.

Different people have wildly different experiences of different stages of parenthood. Someone just referred to the infant stage as “cute Hallmark movie” while I remember standing in my kitchen in tears because I couldn’t get the Hobbit to sleep for a full day. I remember hallucinating from lack of sleep.
The same person says the toddler stage is horrible and soul-destroying, and honestly, it’s been mostly super fun for us.

Men still make up 100% of the Nobel laureates this year so far.

White bikes always make me sad.

A child-size white bike makes me want to start a revolution.

Ta-daa! Birthday sweater for The Hobbit’s third year on Earth, pre-blocking.

Note: I am not even going to hope there is an 18 year old *following* me here. I am not cool enough.
#KnowYourLimits

Is there an 18-year old EU resident in your life? Send them this so they can have a chance to get a travel pass to explore the continent a bit: https://commission.europa.eu/news-and-media/news/turning-18-apply-free-discovereu-travel-pass-2026-10-01_en

"Un parlementaire RN interroge tout de même : "Qui n’a jamais tracé une croix gammée avec son compas sur une table au lycée ou à la faculté ?"

bah, mon gars, j'ai une mauvaise nouvelle pour toi... https://www.lemonde.fr/politique/article/2026/10/01/mediapart-publie-ses-elements-de-preuve-sur-les-propos-antisemites-de-jordan-bardella-mettant-a-mal-la-defense-du-rn_6786566_823448.html

I overheard a colleague being congratulated for cycling a whole 3km to the office every day and celebrated as a “sustainability hero” and he was visibly embarrassed.
The bar for individual action is in hell for most people in Europe. A remarkable amount of people have done absolutely nothing to change their lifestyles to stop climate change.
