    I went to Camelback mountain yesterday to meet up with some friends who were working the 10GHz and up contest. Since it's also a state park I decided to attempt a #POTA activation.

    Band conditions seemed to be pretty lousy for me on 20m and only made 16 SSB Q's from US-1330, Big Pocono State Park. I was surprised that despite the lousy conditions I was able to work PD1CW.

    My car is on the left with a 20m hamstick antenna on the roof. To the right of the car is a trailer with a portable 10 GHz setup on the roof and another 10 GHz station is mounted on a mast attached to the trailer.
    Map showing the stations worked from the park. Almost all stations are in the Midwest and to the South East of the USA, and one overseas in the Netherlands.

    @kr1st How many contacts were made on 10GHz. My main mental barrier to working SHF is the small number of people within range to actually talk to.

    @N1ZZZ @kr1st

    I'm building a plan to try it, likely with some cobbled together homebrew gear based on old ARRL books.

    My sense from reading the PNWVHFS mailing list is that on the "VHF and up" contest weekends there is a fair bit of activity in the PNW, when folks will rove to a good lookout point.

    (Maybe some more regular stuff in southern California with the cactus intertie group.)

    @IrrationalMethod @N1ZZZ I've been tempted to build something too, but my priority is still building a portable EME station for 1296 MHz first. Someday...

    Even outside of contest folks seem to enjoy working 10 GHz using rain and snow scatter.

    @N1ZZZ I worked no-one on 10GHz. I don't have equipment for 10 GHz. I just went there to check out what they were doing and to learn from them.

    The station on the roof of the trailer worked about 8 stations with 3 Watts but it was having intermittent reception problems, and the one on the mast (operator inside the trailer) worked 19 stations I think with 20 Watts, including stations in Canada.
