@fluidlogic also maybe we can finally get more folks interested in osdev again
Oct 16, 2026, 3:05 PMI'm also feeling a bit ambiguous about it. For decades, I've been ridiculed and laughed at for running various BSD systems but now all the cool kids like it and I'm just afraid it's going to ruin things, that always happens when the cool kids barge in and flood the space.
Maybe that's just me...- Amin Dostfluidlogic@oldbytes.spaceOct 16, 2026, 3:19 PM
@gmc ha ha, the *not* cool kids, you mean. The cool kids were already on NetBSD!
I'm quietly hopeful that the folks who rally around #NetBSD are turning to it because of the project's wariness of LLM-generated code (though frankly I'd like to see a stronger statement, such as the Current Affairs magazine statement: https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/why-were-banning-ai) or because they want to contribute to a community that isn't populated by towering narcissists and their flying monkeys.
Time will tell.

@gmc ...oh and a project that hasn't been entirely co-opted by Capital.
