    It was more like 1.5 hours in the end! Guess he'd already doubled the estimate before telling me.

    One of the other workers got narky at me for taking a photo of the site, though. I guess it's fair, he didn't know I was trying my best to keep their faces out of shot.

    But also, they were working in public directly in front of my home, having broken my internet connection, and they'd pulled up the bike path - which I wanted to inform my husband about who was otherwise going to ride home on it.

    @sarajw I wish people who get narky would have the patience to listen to what the other person has to say. I think people get defensive in their aggression somehow and it’s hard to explain afterward what you were doing or how you were already trying to accomodate them.

    @Anneke it is tricky though. It was fair that they would rather not be photographed at work - they were just doing their job. It's not really fault that Telekom decided not to warn us in any way. Our ISP isn't Telekom either, it's another service just using their wires - so another abstraction away.

    @sarajw I get it, I asked some dudes a while ago if I could make a photo as they were doing some really exciting work on electrical infrastructure that I wanted to show my wife. I asked excitedly if I could make a photo but they asked me not to. Due to sensitivity of the work or something. But I guess maybe these peeps doing outside work get bothered more than we know. However it is the kneejerk reaction we all have towards eachother because we were burned before is what makes me sad. :(

    @Anneke yeah. I mean I try not to forget how cushy I have it in my work life. I'm not sitting in the cold outdoors, working in trenches, having people come out getting annoyed at the work I've been given to do.

    @Anneke @sarajw
    When i was a phone engineer, I often got pictures taken of me up a pole. Didn't bother me, I just didn't show my face and they were happy.

    But sorry you lost your tiniternet Sara, I had plenty of instances where builders broke our network. Once 3 times in a 10m stretch! Partly in their defence though, the cable _should_ have been deeper than 10cm.
