I wonder, how many #Czech language users are on Fediverse and especially among my followers (but you can boost to increase reach).
My estimate is about 2000 users total (1000 on .cz instance, 1000 on global and selfhosted)

@xChaos a bit weird options TBH, I can read and write Czech, heck I've even read Babička and Postřižiny in original, and I'm non-native
@oleksandr so you are etc. :-)
@xChaos thank you very much
@oleksandr @xChaos You have my sympathy for reading Babička.
Why do you always torture yourself, Саша?
@ptesarik @oleksandr @xChaos he thought it was about me
@xChaos very generous estimate!
@xChaos do the bridges from X etc count? I assume not.
@xChaos I can read some Czech due to being polish, but I don't think this makes me a Czech language user, as I don't really do that often
@ramona so this is etc.
@xChaos I find it interesting that you would put Slovak in the second category. In my little experience they are as good as most native speakers. But maybe I don't see them struggling because I'm struggling way more 😅
@amdg2 it is easier then that: we understand Slovaks and they understand us, so there is no need to actually speak or write the other language (sometimes, we do, but rarely).
@xChaos I did pass a B1 exam in 2014. But I no longer need to speak czech for work, so it's probably not going to get better. Have some czech friends but see them very rarely.
@wanisbunes thanks. The main purpose of this poll is perhaps to learn how big percentage of my reachable audience can read my toots in my native tongue without machine translation.
I still hesitate between posting in Czech and English. But Europeans should probably post on social media in our native tongues...
Machine translation is getting better, but still, it is AI. So I really don't know. I alter the languages and don't manage two separate Fedi identities.
@xChaos @wanisbunes I find it odd that English isn't considered a native tongue in Europe even though 60m of us speak it as our first language
@xChaos I learned some for a holiday once but have forgotten almost all of it.
@xChaos Although I can order “one dark beer” in a pub. First things first.
@xChaos Jsem Francouz žijící v Praze. Snažím se najít účty na Mastodonu, které bych mohl sledovat, abych si zlepšil češtinu.
@Knar česky mluvící účty najdete například na instancích mastodonczech.cz, witter.cz, mamutovo.cz nebo u nás na f.cz ...
@xChaos Děkuju most !
@Knar Není zač!
"moc"/"mockrát". Most = pont (bridge).
@xChaos
I don't speak Czech, even though I really should. I'm half Czech from my father's side, he was from Prague.
@xChaos The missing option is 'no but I have visited Prague does that count'.
@aardrijkskunde Pardon my French, but this is... err... highly illogical :-)
@VoxOfGod well, it would mean, that I am fluent in Catalan, because I can recognize Sagrada Familia cathedral...
This poll serve very simple and boring purpose: I am trying to compare target audience for my Czech and English toots.
The option "No, but I use machine translation" would be nice, but I am in fact not sure, if I want to promote machine translation (I use it often, of course...)
