And slop-forking all the Adobe products… I like this as a middle finger to forever-subscriptions or an art piece about the destruction of the software industry…

But what do you get out it? A bunch of legacy Adobe products!? And it cost how much?

No offense to Adobe friends who work on these, but why would you burn a billion tokens to generate software with tons of compromises and ancient bad decisions? You paid to recreate those bad decisions. Are we out of ideas!? Yeeesh.

@davatron5000 This Adobe thing is especially fun, because even mainstream media here is reporting it as a thing that happened, but they didn’t check whether the apps actually worked. In fact, there are few accounts of anyone trying them. The one I could find gave the impression that the apps only appear to work if you don’t spend more than 10 minutes looking at them. :|

But who cares, right? Nothing needs to work anymore. Nothing needs to be true. Nothing needs to be anything.

@jonikorpi @davatron5000 This is my recurring experience. Folks running around with a “mission accomplished” banner cause they one-shot hundreds of thousands of lines of code, uninformed observers being impressed, managers telling everyone else to be like that, and then we move on to the next blinking light before finding out if the thing actually worked (it didn’t).

@dandean @jonikorpi @davatron5000 I told someone else recently that the current slop coding reminds me of my fellow students in the 90s who would turn in their C assignment the moment it compiled, certain that if they didn’t get a compiler error message then they must be done.

@davatron5000 I looked at that suite, and it appears to center around selling tokens for a bunch of Creative Cloud-like workflows. In other words, they're emulating Adobe's bad NEW patterns, not its bad old ones.

@davatron5000 well, let me ask my LLM…

    …

…it says “no”, but it didn’t come with any new ideas, so I’m not sure whether that was training data or a hallucination. 😅

@davatron5000 On the topic of new ideas, I've been watching Graphite work towards them for a while now: graphite.art/

Think photoshop but in a real-time non-destructive programmable node/graph-based view.

All the effects' parameters can be changed from within the node/graph, and you can build your own by connecting nodes, or adding code to make your own nodes.
