I am increasingly of the opinion that the leftist concept of "fashware" or "contaminated" software is kind of dumb. a fascist made a decent bit of software? great! Steal it, give him nothing, use it. Otherwise the only ones who have the software are the fascists. same with the "woops this got touched by AI once and now I can't use it" people. the fuck are you going to use? are you going to back yourselves into a fucking corner over purity? congratulations, you lose. categorically, thoroughly, so thoroughly it's impressive. you. lose. All your base are belong to the fascists, except no, they don't, because you didn't fucking build anything, did you, because purity. Fuck.

You did not build infrastructure, because infrastructure is fascist. Congratulations, you lose.
You did not build structured hierarchy and specific rates / responsibilities? Now nobody knows what they're doing when the shit hits the fan. Congratulations, you lose.
You decided that the ideologically correct next step was to fuck off into the forest and hide from the world? Congratulations, you lose.
You decided to refuse to use AI on ideological and purity grounds? Congratulations, you lose, and now there is fascism at machine-speed and antifascism at human speed and fascism wins, this is just fucking physics, they can flood social media with a thousand LLM-run accounts in 30 seconds and you're still struggling to get 6 people on your fedi. you lose. retroactively you lose, you lose that thoroughly.

The tools created by fascism are loot. to be stolen, repurposed, and used, gleefully, joyfully, to dismantle fascism. Mario Bros coin pickup noises! Sonic ring pikcup noises! All the tech is out there, steal it back! you bloody worked to make it, in many cases! antifascist workers, take the tools you fucking made back!

    @freya

    Yes and no.
So the no part is bigger ethical issues with flash tech and not just a recent thing either. Most flash tech had huge exploitation involved with it. Bayer is one big example. So is many of the vaccines.
Now we did choice to steal and use those in the end. Which is the yes part. Of course some of it is still attributed back to the flash who made it.
This is the ethical issue around using flash tech is knowing about the exploitations and saying that is ok for progress.
I had that choice. Because we should never had to choice like that but we do all the time.

So in summary we already use a lot flash tech today and many times dont even realize it. Would you give that up, maybe maybe not. It is definitely something hard to do.

This is why I have not given up on gcc yet, the llm usage has been limited and I am trying to grow the non llm developers/reviewers so that least when reviewing changes we can trust it more.

@freya @matt Hi, I am a blind person who follows you for the AccessKit stuff, to learn more. My intention is, for long term, to explore (and eventually switch to) full open source machines. But the state of the art in Linux and accessibility is not so mature as Windows and Apple is.

So, I correctly fit with the post you quoted, about far-right and far-left. Being aware of the damages far-right causes to human rights and environment, I also know that (unfortunately) tech is currently owned by them, for the most part. And this far-right driven tech, is the one with more features helping blind people. Including the so-called "vibe coding", namely "code generation assisted by automated models". Calling it somehow "intelligence", artificial or "super" even worse, is a lie IMHO, but it is a significant aid for blind community. Saying the opposite, means lying to ourselves.

This doesn't imply that far-right is caring of blind, no. It's a mechanism of dependence which risks to put us in a more vulnerable position. Even with agents, you create automation for everything, so, theoretically, the need of "hand made", experience made, accessible solutions, becomes unpopular. "they do what they need by themselves".

But no one can exclude that one day, short or long term, far-right decides that you can no longer use certain apps (fediverse? Open source?) on their systems. Or, that for "security reasons" you can no longer user certain words, not accepted by the government in question. Who said "350 banned words from federal documents"? Me. Climate, accessibility, women... there are so many normal words which can no longer be used in federal American documents. And they can become crazy, making them banned from tech as well. Who knows what's their long-term mindset?

But? Talked of far-right, what's around in the opposite side? Valid alternatives, MATURE alternatives, for blind? If meta glasses are "for perverts", I'd expect someone from the community proposing something more privacy-oriented to aid blind users. No. Nothing. Complete silence.

So? Am I pulling for far-right? No. I'm pulling for a less ableist society. Because this guilt-tripping and elitism gives power to the folks we don't want.

@freya So why are you here and not using, say, Facebook? There’s a reason why people want to remain in minority created spaces, and it’s the same reason why people remain here even though they can’t stand the no AI crowd

@WeirdWriter @freya I think there's no contradiction in wanting a space that we control, like the fediverse, that's always accessible with software of our choosing, where that choice of software can't be taken away as it was with Facebook and then Twitter, while not agreeing with the loudest ideology.

@matt @freya Yeah, you have a point. I’d consider it more of a stance than an ideology. For it to be an ideology, it would have to have some political theory behind it. The fact that anarchists use LLMs proudly makes it more of a stance than an ideology.
