Here is an on-going effort of highlighting and preserving my digital paintings & webcomics for future generations by the BnF ( Bibliothèque Nationale de France, I could translate to 'National Library of France'). They contacted me approx. a year ago, and it's truly a huge honor and support. Thank you. Archiving open culture matters. 💙
@davidrevoy Voila une excellente nouvelle!
Sep 23, 2026, 10:38 AMI have *some* notes on their formats 😉, obviously no svg anywhere, so I guess convert it to pdf and lose a bunch of data to archive it. But also OOXML docx is ok 🤮
Obviously a bit of de facto going on I think.
On the other hand, we only see two slides and I bet they have an entire slide just for SVG 🥰
@doctormo True! Probably this slide is "the constrains", showing what offer the institution; and then in contrast on a later slide showing what type of files I offer in my case, or in other webcomic authors use.
@davidrevoy @doctormo So which files do they archive for your work ? Do they keep the original .kra or just the resulting images ? In which language(s) for the text ? They could just as well git clone your repo 😅
@denkodama @doctormo Yes, these are exactly the type of questions they studies. I don't have the answer yet either :)
@doctormo @davidrevoy there are a few reasons why this policy is the way it is:
1) we (i.e., preservation institutions) may "prefer" (and recommend) free formats, but we also need to insist on proprietary formats being acceptable. We don't like them but the burden of managing risks related to these must be on us.
@davidrevoy Wow!
@davidrevoy Deserved!
Cool stuff. With ever-changing (proprietary) formats and restrictions, archiving is getting more-and-more difficult. Nice to see this important work (especially for such amazing art).
@TuxOnBike :blobcatheart:
@davidrevoy Yoooo, that's an incredible honor! Congrats!
@ToonLink Thank you! ☺️
@davidrevoy wow what a privilege and I'm happy for you man
@chengdulittlea Thank you!

This is cool. I remember so many webcomics that I read during the 2000s and which years later disappeared from the web. I'm not sure if they were all preserve-worthy, but honestly, who am I to judge? It's good to see that france takes this serious, at least for their own webcomic artists.
@momo Same, this and so many Flash animations or shows. Good indeed to see a library studying the preservation of webcomics!
@davidrevoy c'est excellent ça!
@davidrevoy I really loved this art❤️
@delta_fsociety Thank you 💜
@davidrevoy WAAAAAAAOOOOUUUUH
@davidrevoy Yay!!! Congratulations!!! 👏👏👏
The BnF reaching out to a creator and archiving their work is exactly why institutions matter. Preserving open culture for future readers is the smartest thing anyone can do.
@davidrevoy Nice!
And well-deserved!
@davidrevoy Incroyable !!!😻
@davidrevoy Tu le merites. La Finlande a les Moomins, la France a Pepper & Carrot.
