@mtothevizzah There's definitely a lot of moving parts. Have you seen the controversy over the OpenAI announcement for instance --- they were in communication with a mathematician (Tristan Buckmaster) working with an Anthropic researcher in the same area. There are claims they piggy-backed on this result with access to more compute.
Feels like marketing is more important than the maths right now :/

@mtothevizzah There are rumours this result cost OpenAI $15 million in compute, for a $1 million prize, where most of the insight came from the non-LLM work both efforts were building on (Diego Cordoba and Luis Martınez-Zoroa). So that's thought-provoking, it's clearly no longer just Computer Graphics researchers struggling with limited access to compute 😄
