Kaja Kallas accuses the US of pushing Ukraine to 'surrender on Putin's terms'
"American negotiators have been trying to push Ukraine into surrender for almost two years," Kaja Kallas said amid rising EU-US tensions.
It's called two factor authentication because there are two factors and they're both two.
At the European Council press conference in Brussels, a Sky News reporter put it to Zelensky that Trump faces tough midterms, low approval ratings, high diesel prices and a Middle East war that is not going his way, and asked whether Ukraine is being made a scapegoat for his problems.
Zelensky looked down at the podium for about ten seconds, then said: "This is my answer. Thank you so much." Then he left.
Spotted this great image, yes a real image, last night! It looks like a firework going off!
It's of the supernova remnant Pa 30 and was taken by the Gemini Observatory (north).
It's probably the only one of these I have ever seen an image of and could also be the only one we know about in the entire Galaxy.
Pa 30 (IRAS 00500+6713) has a central white dwarf star (eventually what our Sun will become).
The idea is that this supernova ejecta formed in 1181 and may have been observed / documented by Chinese and Japanese astronomers. It's thought to have formed when two white dwarfs collided.
Those long radial filaments are likely caused by Rayleigh- Taylor instabilities. The authors of the paper below suggest that these could be what's left over from a slower ejecta shell that has been shaped into these long, narrow structures by the winds of the white dwarf star.
The white dwarf itself is fascinating. Likely rapidly rotating and has a very powerful magnetic field (almost as strong as a millisecond pulsar).
Truly an odd, yet wonderful Galactic object!

The US just sanctioned the entire International Criminal Court. Banks froze accounts, US tech vendors cut off licenses and updates, and YouTube pulled 700+ videos of possible war crime evidence. ⚖️
If one executive order can switch off a court, your family photos aren't safe on American clouds either. 🇪🇺

I'd like to think there will be a proper investigation into why the fuck meta made the call to ban lula's campaign for a short time at a crucial point, but I won't hold my breath. Something to keep an eye on in upcoming elections around the world. maga mark is desperate for trump's approval.

@GDCPresoReviews The TL;DR version is that the number of vertices generated makes a _huge_ difference, and the main reason mesh shaders work, tessellation HW semi-works and GS doesn't work at all has to do with the amount of vertex sharing you get out of them.
@lisyarus wait until you realize that D3D12 is the longest running D3D version…
D3D12: 11 years and counting
D3D11: 6 years
D3D9: 4 years
D3D10: 3 years
D3D8: 2 years
For people who still believe the GPL influences corporations in a meaningful way:
When I was at Microsoft, I worked on a product that used Linux. The product was cancelled for largely unrelated reasons before it shipped, so the exact details are irrelevant but anything that links Linux needs to loop in lawyers, so I spent a lot of time talking to them.
Maybe 10% of the total time was spent with the technicalities of the GPL. The fact that the GPL is ambiguous and poorly written and the Linux syscall exemption is even worse made me expect long discussions about the legalese. But instead the conclusion of the GPL-focused discussions was basically:
No one really knows what the GPL can actually enforce and half of the stuff that's done with Linux is technically in violation. Microsoft ships Linux images for Azure that come with a click-through license that prohibits running them on any other cloud and no one cares. We can make a convincing argument that this is okay. Only a handful of companies can afford a protracted legal battle with Microsoft and none of them are sufficiently motivated to take us to court over this, so it's unlikely to come up.
The remaining 90% of the discussions were around how the product would be perceived by Linux maintainers, the wider Linux community, and the broader F/OSS ecosystem. Microsoft had put a lot of effort into the 'Microsoft <3 Linux' marketing things. The Ballmer-era alienation of the most active developer communities had cost the company a lot of ecosystem market share. The risk of pushing developers away from Microsoft products and platforms was something that the lawyers regarded as a huge risk. If two of the senior Linux maintainers had said 'we think this is not an acceptable use of Linux' then that would have torpedoed the project instantly.
The moral of this story is that, if positive engagement with your community is perceived as valuable, you have an enormous amount of leverage over big companies. At the time, Microsoft was (by market cap) the largest company in the world. The legal text, in contrast, isn't worth the paper it's written on when your adversary can afford to outspend you in court by six orders of magnitude. When they happen to be aligned, the legal text may look as if it's working, but that's a coincidence.
A billionaire can never be held accountable, therefore a billionaire should never make a management decision.
it's the 70th anniversary of the IBM 305 RAMAC, the world's first hard drive! in celebration, here is a picture of a prototype RAMAC magnetic head.
In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...
European central banks are moving their gold reserves away from the United States to prioritize accessibility during geopolitical crises. The Netherlands and France have already transferred assets to liquid markets like London, where they can be quickly leveraged in emergencies. Driven by doubts regarding the US financial system and unpredictable policies from the Trump administration, other EU nations like Italy and Germany are considering similar withdrawals.

“That weekend at Hugging Face, our commercial AI tools failed us when we needed them for defence. We had to turn to an open-weight Chinese model to process the attack logs. Many people have suggested that open-weight AI models are a threat — that they will be used to attack systems protected by closed-source AI models. That weekend, the opposite happened.” Thomas Wolf, HuggingFace co-founder
