Also, can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing the box art for X-Wing was?

At a time when most game boxes where some kind of black, grey, brown, or green, X-Wing went: Purple! 🟪

And it works! It looks amazing. Not at all tacky or garrish.

@yora I think the most interesting things for me in this list are:

Starcraft - actually never finished Brood War and never even started Legacy of the Void in 2, despite loving the games

Baldur's Gate 2 - This is a game I consider FORMATIONAL. It shaped me into who I am and to this day it's the stick I use to measure NPC interactions and party dynamics. But I played 1 later and did not like it at all

Given later findings, these days it makes me sad to have loved all these blizz titles so much

@addison @VileLasagna Baldur's Gate is the only thing that comes anywhere close to having as much influence on my creative life as Star Wars. Probably still my most played game ever.

Baldur's Gate 2 was an improvement in almost every way. But a couple of years later I found that it just isn't as engaging. I have replayed 1 at least five times in the last 25 years. But BG2 I completed once, and then a second time with the expansion. And I never got past the Spellhold dungeon ever again.

@addison @VileLasagna I want to complete BG2 just one more time. But I'm already playing so rarely and the game is so long.

I think I still have a five year old save file in the Spellhold Dungeon (I think 80% of my attempts ended there), and having completed everything that can be done before that, I think I might be able to continue from there ever after so much time.

The controls and combat mechanics are something I doubt I ever get rusty on. 😅

@yora @addison To me the thing that REALLY stuck from BG2 were all the NPCs interactions. Not only with the player but also among each other. It really brought the party to life in a way I've rarely seen matched (shoutouts to Yakuza 7 which goes even harder here).

It did a lot of the immersion heavy lifting because having all those clashing perspectives made the world feel very lived in. Agreed that ToB is a bit less interesting but I still rank SoA over BG1. I dunno, my experience with 1 [+1]

@yora @addison Was a bit all over the place. Sarevok is not as charismatic as Irenicus so there isn't as much build up and the game felt too aimless at too many points. In BG2 I felt it a bit easier to follow the main quest and, also, Athkatla just SUCKS YOU IN like nothing else.

Great games to have 769 mods installed too. The BG2 modding community is up there with Doom's
