We released the first beta for Mastodon 4.7 today. It contains very few user-facing changes, but contains significant reworks of the backend code to improve security and support new protocol features.
This update includes substantial database migrations that might take up to a couple of hours on very large servers, but will not cause downtime if the upgrade instructions are followed.
Release notes and upgrade instructions are available here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.7.0-beta.1

@MastodonEngineering Are there any plans to make server self-hosting as simple as an official Docker/Podman compose file?

@davidvekony @MastodonEngineering the documentation around docker isn't as nice as it should be
but improving the docker to be easier to deploy is on my long TODO list.

@shlee @davidvekony @MastodonEngineering this seems like some extremely low hanging fruit we should really improve upon. We recently moved some Mastodon servers from Masto.host to Docker and the documentation was severly lacking.

@MastodonEngineering The official Docker Compose setup (e.g., docker-compose.yml) is already a great starting point for self-hosting. However, the documentation could indeed be more beginner-friendly. Improving the Docker deployment experience is on the roadmap—thanks for the feedback!
