People in the US can't understand why Europeans don't all have AC in the heat.

"Climate change is driving up temperatures around the world - but particularly in Europe. It is the fastest warming continent, heating up twice as fast as the global average, according to the Copernicus climate service."

@sjoy.lol also the kind of aircon that warm places typically have requires internal and external units - and I don't know about you, but in the UK most houses just don't have space to put these things - we're in a 7 year old 4-bed new build house, but the space between properties means we have nowhere to put a heat pump for example - plus our "wet" heating systems are very different from the HVAC systems. All told the cost to retrofit aircon properly is super expensive for everyone.

@scrwd yep! It's more than just "get air con, are you mad?"

A lot of Americans have those window units, and I guess that would be viable in the UK if you have sash windows, but most don't, and they probably don't do too well being rained on from the outside.

Here I've bought one of those single hose mobile units - it's not the best but it helps on the worst days.

@sarajw if I was building my own house I'd probably go for a ground source heat (and cool) pump and underfloor heating (and cooling) with solar to power it - but there is no way this is remotely possible. A vented AC is best I could probably get too - and did you have to seal round the window or do you have the hose go somewhere else?
