Oct 20, 2025, 4:25 PMGoogle Maps lets drivers mark “Unplowed Roads.” These warnings are now popping up in Southern California to warn of ICE agents on the loose… because of the “icy” conditions. I love users!

Oct 20, 2025, 9:36 PM@detreville@discuss.systems I've read that people use the speed trap notification within Google Maps to do the same.
Maximummium Overacticansaka_quant_noir@hcommons.socialOct 21, 2025, 2:02 AMWe need to so over-track and over-monitor these iceholes that they have to shut down all the surveillance on us just to keep us from getting to them.

@aka_quant_noir Corporate America isn’t making it easy, though. The White House told Apple to remove several ICE-tracking apps from its App Store because they make ICE agents feel unsafe, and Apple said yes. Time for workarounds! https://www.wired.com/story/apple-took-down-ice-tracking-apps-their-developers-arent-giving-up/

@detreville Since when does everything have to be an app though? This unplowed map thing is a great idea. Let's come up with hundreds of others.
f*cking b*tch clubgrammasaurus@mastodon.socialOct 21, 2025, 8:48 PM@aka_quant_noir @detreville google maps is an app, isn’t it?

@grammasaurus @detreville Sure, but it's not just an app, and isn't a specialized one.

@aka_quant_noir The tricky part is finding an existing app that allows easy, effective side-channel communication of geographically targeted real-time information. Leaving anti-ICE Yelp reviews won’t cut it, for example.

Or website. Really that was my point, none of this has to be an app on your phone.

@aka_quant_noir Understood. The trick is getting critical mass behind a website, and an official California website might help. Google Maps already has critical mass.
AlexisLexYeen@plush.cityOct 25, 2025, 12:32 AM@aka_quant_noir @detreville Honestly, any kind of abnormal hazardous condition for the area works. That's what ICE is actively creating, after all.
As an example of what I mean, using Portland as the hypothetical setting, a "fallen tree" is also known as a log. Which the local frogs might like to gather on.
