I got that book today. This is a book that includes a lot of my early family history. I've had a PDF scan of this book for quite some time, and modern reprints are available for just a few dollars. An original edition of this book in good shape goes for $200.00 or more, and I wasn't about to pay that. Then this very damaged but complete one showed up for just $15.00!

Honestly it's in better shape that I thought it would be. None of the pages are falling out and the stitching seems to be decent. But as you can see, the binding has cracked in several places and the spine is missing completely.

I may have to completely deconstruct this whole thing and put it back together again. Re-stitch and re-glue the binding, and build a new spine.

Stitching a book is something I've never done before. I've watched others do it, but they make it look easy.

I'll have to examine this thing further and decide how to tackle this, then order up the stuff to get it done.

How would you handle this? Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Those who buy a lot of used books...

What do you think of marks, notes, and highlighting in the book from previous owners?

It can be interesting reading someone else's notes written in the margins, seeing what they thought was important through highlighting and underlining, etc. It adds something to the character of the book and becomes part of its history.

I can see where this could be distracting, but I don't mind it for the most part.

Any #bookbinders around here that may be able to replace the spine cloth on a book for me?

Boosts appreciated.

Maybe a stupid question...

What are those large towers that surround the site of every modern space launch? I don't think anything similar was present in the space program all the way up to the 90's. I could be wrong though...

Have you looked at your own profile recently? Is it still current?

It's probably not a bad idea to have a look at it once in a while.

Every time I see Pete Hegseth I can't help but think of Baghdad Bob.

The spiders are coming out for the season. So far I've spotted one in the house and two on the back patio over the past week.

Do you own a physical dictionary? Do you use it?

Got these today. Now I can finally tap that.

It's been hovering just below to slightly above freezing all day today. Tomorrow it'll be in the 60's and continuing that way all week.

A while back my heel cracked and started to bleed, so I'm at that point in life where I have to moisturize my feet every morning.

Well, many of the water lines on outside walls are frozen. Three bathroom sinks and one toilet have no running water. One bathroom sink is fine, but it's on an inside wall. The kitchen still has water, being in the middle of the house.

And it appears the battery in my weather station died at some point during the night. Need to take care of that. Weather Underground says it's 9℉ right now with a feels like of -5℉.

It's time to renew our passports. This time we're going to get the cards to carry with us. Because.

Late last night I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so I picked up my phone and started scrolling. I was struck by how different this place is when North America is sleeping. Calmer and more peaceful. Almost no mention of the issues we're dealing with here.

I had noticed this before, but didn't really think about it too much. Last night it really hit me though.

I subscribe to a lot of #YouTube channels covering a wide variety of interests. I wish there were a way to organize them somehow, like folders or tags.
