Valve might be on to a win^4 situation if they would be able to offer accessible conversion to #SteamOS for Windows 10 devices which are not eligible for the update to the new spying 11 thing. Heck, even for my eligible devices I would consider it.

And yes we as consumers should in the long term move to #Linux or another open source OS, but not everyone is comfortable with a command line and fixing drivers in safe mode.

@jelle Fixing drivers in safe mode is a Windows thing. So is the command line, now that I think about it

@slyecho @jelle Pretty much yeah. Like, things are easier in the Terminal, but just about anything you need to change on a Linux system, if you look around for it, there is generally a GUI way to do it. All the tutorials you'll find out there use the terminal not because it's the only way, but because it's the universal way. It'll work on every distro and set of software.

@krutonium @slyecho but that's just the thing: The average consumer wants a PC that 'just works'. Even if you have the motivation to start looking through a highly technical UI, where would a not technically inclined person start?

If there wasn't some barrier #Linux adoption would be way higher (also funding and all that but for sake of argumen). Maybe we need higher tech/IT proficiency in society in general, but it that a fair or reasonable expectation?
