Just updated my home server from #Ubuntu 24.04 to 26.04.1. Went flawlessly. Everything back up and running in maybe 20 minutes. As close to perfect as I could want.

this is extremely dissapppointing @fosdem. if there's one conference that needs this it's #fosdem... I don't believe this couldn't be squeezed in.

In the wake of the compromise of the eMudhra Intermediate CA, we strongly encourage all Mastodon administrators to make sure their systems are up-to-date.

For those using our official Mastodon container images, we just rebuilt them (with the same tags) so they contain the latest updates to the list of CA certificates. Please update them as soon as possible.

For more information about this compromise and ways to check if your server is impacted, please read https://emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com

Honestly, not only should they avoid any platform like Twitter or Instagram or Facebook, they should make an effort to host everything offshore. Even if they host their own Mastodon instance, they're still vulnerable if they're using GoDaddy or Azure or GCP. Any US based service leaves you vulnerable.

I'm not a fan of this, but I'm hoping from the verbiage that this is a configurable option for instance admins, not something decided unilaterally by the Mastodon devs.

Also, and this feels almost sacrilegious, but I might actually like the light themes better than the dark themes?

Looking around at the new 5.0 release of #Mastodon that's coming here soon. I realize it's superficial of me, but the first thing that jumped out at me is I really like the new Orange theme. They've made some pretty significant changes to the UI. I expect there's going to be those that love and those that hate, but so far I'm in the former group. I've only been poking around for a couple minutes, but so far I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

#FreshRSS 1.30.2 released!

This is hopefully the final bug and security fix of 1.30.x before some more exiting work towards 1.31.0.

Note that our rolling-release channel (edge) is still recommended for faster security patches and bug fixes.

Ahhh, updated version of #FreshRSS today.

We know EFF’s new license plate frame won’t stop police from tracking your car everywhere you go. But it will tell them how you feel about it, and speaking out helps create change. https://shopeff.org/products/no-tracking-license-plate-frame

Tech devotees judge AI by this month's model.

Everyone else judges it by fifteen years of Siri, Alexa, and the Google Assistant getting almost everything wrong...

Oh, btw, did anybody notice it's Monday morning? I know, right?

Hey Fosstodon, I've been away for a while but I'm coming back. Missed this place. Still tinkering with Linux and building little tools, so expect some of that again. How have you all been?

Hello all you wonderful FOSS people.

Now I have my Surface Pro tablet running Zorin OS, I'm looking for a decent eReader for eBooks.

Any suggestions for Linux?

Happy Friday #Fosstodon! What are you up to this weekend?

It's FRIDAY!!! Woohoo!!!

Wait, what? It's Thursday?

Shit.

This is very bad news. Owncast has relied on this program the past couple of years, and has allowed us to have servers and services we wouldn't normally afford to be able to do otherwise, especially now with Gabe being unemployed.

Any other cloud hosting providers want to step in and help all the open source projects that are going to be in this position?

Additionally, this might be a good time to show your financial support for Owncast.

Hating everything doesn't actually make you any smarter than the rest of us. Most of the time, it just makes you bloody miserable.

You can, in fact, just like things.
