I love hearing about hardware problems where it's like "well that can't have broken that way, just from doing that" and then there's follow-up and NOPE, it's really broken that way, from doing exactly that. huh. Computers are weird.
I've been saying since the 2000s that it's important that every big software stack have at least one angry new software grad to fight back against entrenched complexity in the existing codebase.
sometimes there is a good reason why we can't "just do X, Y, or Z" but someone should be still raising the question, damn it
So it's my birthday, and I'm currently the only one of three disabled trans people in my household who can work, but 16 months of being bedridden and ongoing chronic migraines have left us very broke. If you'd like to send a few dollars as a gift, that'd be very appreciated!
It's always slightly annoying to me when there's keyboards that can switch between bluetooth and a separate proprietary protocol, because they always run into the problem of what to name that separate option.
* RF - Ah, so their Bluetooth isn't going over radio now?
* 2.4g - hey quick question: what frequency is that Bluetooth running at?
Looking for work.
I have 12 years' experience in embedded software development in C/C++. I have also worked extensively on tasks related to toolchains (CI, CMake, Docker, etc.) and automated testing with hardware-in-the-loop and RaspberryPi. I am capable of handling most software-related work, even if it is not embedded.
I am looking in the Strasbourg area in France. Remote work preferred.
I speak French, English, German and Spanish.
Happy International Lesbian Day, from VGAPride!
Here's one of the many lesbian pride flags (the 5-stripe variant of the "sunset" flag).
Highly motivated to find folks with Whistle InterJets -- late-90s 486 SOHO Internet appliances (IBM bought and sunsetted it, and sold off the whistle.com domain). People with long ISP memories may remember it because it was resold by ISPs in US /Europe / Asia (especially Japan).
I'm building a comprehensive info resource (and tailoring modern NetBSD to run on it). We need to find folks with hardware, software we're missing, ephemera, or memories. The software (on 30yo IDE drives) is especially endangered.
Rough site, in all its 1995-grade (but secretly HTML5) "glory":
https://www.alaska.net/~royce/interjet/
(That tilde account is also endangered -- I've also registered a domain and will be moving to it when ready)

Please boost, especially if you have overlap in the retrocomputing or vintage ISP space!

Under 12 hours left on this
i've had this irresistible piece of 90s msdos trashware on my shelf for 10 years. softkey international was a shovelware company that you'd find at your local grocery store - i think it began its life as a shareware distributor, before it began selling big box copies of low quality games and applications
i couldn't bear to throw out this boxed copy of Key 3-D Design over the years, and never once thought it had any archival value until today
after a bunch of searches, i couldn't find any copies of SoftKey 3-D Design for DOS online. it's a verrrrrry stripped down CAD program that runs in 640x480 and 16 colours. (there are win16 versions archived online, but not the DOS version)
the rendering algorithm reminds me of Sierra AGI games, painting one face at a time slowwwllyyy 😆
am i the only person that seriously wishes low-res, shit-shaded VRML made a comeback?
i've archived the box covers and diskette here. have fun building the hacienda of your dreams:

I just saw a video of an AI executive saying that people will connect their brains to the cloud so they can have 1,000 times more thoughts.
Neurotypical people. Please listen to me. I promise you, with all the ADHD in my body-
You really do not want 1,000 more thoughts.
You may think you do, but you extremely do not.
