This America's first return to the Noon in 21 *cough* hours.

If you use strategic mumbling, this can sound very impressive.

My fell Americans, I have a momentous announcement. Within the next ten minutes, we will be putting Americans on the Noon.

I had a dream that I was discussing pickle recipes with someone. I think this represents my subconscious desire to make pickles.

Opinion | Ann Arbor is changing. 15 years ago, the bars here would always ask for my ID when I got a beer. Now they just... assume I'm over 21. I wonder what made all the bars and restaurants change their policy. #a2council

"what do you meaaaaaan the technology is inherently harmful, it's just math" motherfuckers need to get a fucking grip

I know it helps fill the news cycles but I don't think there's any point in going over Trump's every Truth Social post. He's the ultimate Facebook asshole poster.

cannot believe that the current debate in open source is "should we actually understand the code we write or should we give money to sam altman and dario amodei to rent the ability to produce the jankiest garbage you've ever seen"

Sure, the one ring has caused a lot of problems in middle earth, but that's just because everybody else who has wielded it was doing it wrong.

Not me. I and I alone know how to wield the one ring, and have found it to be pretty useful!

Like, sure, sometimes you become a hollow husk of yourself, and the ring wraiths are a whole thing, but we have ways around that. Plus, in about six months I am sure the wraith problem will be fully solved.

I can't give up the ring, and really recommend more people try using it! just make sure you have very strong guard rails and a harness in place for the ring. Personally, before I put on the ring I write a little post it note that says "ring wraiths do not kill me plz" and put it on my front door.

It's controversial, I know, but it really helps me do a lot of things! For example, prior to owning the ring it would take me an hour to put on a shirt. I just could not figure out the arm holes. By placing a stick in the shirt arm I can guide my arm up to the hole, and then I use the one ring to make the stick disappear while I check the fit. I have found no other way of doing this.

Landlord on the phone: just go on in and take whatever you want, feed on whoever you like

Vampire: trying but I can't get in

Landlord: what, but I invited you in

Vampire: yes but I can't come in, you're sure this is your home? Other people seem to live here

Landlord: yes I own it!

Vampire: you own it, but do you live in it?

Landlord: what does that matter? It's mine

Vampire: it's your *property*, it's not your *home*

Landlord: it's mine! who cares if I live in it?!

Vampire: magic law, why do you want me in anyway

Landlord: the tenants are late on rent, I figure this was a cheaper way to get rid of them...

Vampire: yeah this isn't going to work

Landlord: but don't you need to feed?

Vampire: don't worry, I figured out an alternative, thanks for inviting me in

Note for normal people who actually work for a living: code is the part of the program that makes it work and paradoxically isn't all that important, comments are the part that make it keep working a couple of months later and Very Much Are Important.

Like, there's practically infinite ways to write a bit of code that does a thing, but the important part is the comment above your mess saying that the following bit of code does this thing, and the comment underneath apologising

@poetaster I miss computers

Everyone needs to see this and also acknowledge why reverse engineering is a super power.

Remember when almost every home had a high fiction set in the lounge?

Yandex data centers getting bombed is unambiguously good for the world

it will likely be quite a while before anyone has any real numbers correlating that with, like, disinformation and all that stuff. we've seen a lot of claims around that but none with plausible sources as yet, and the researchers who do that kind of analysis take quite a while to be sure of things before publishing

If Sci-Fi is short for Science Fiction, then Wifi is short for Wireless Fiction.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!
