I'm generally a big ol' Luddite and very anti AI but, dangit, I fucking love the Merlin app so much. I'm sure if I hung out with birders I could gain the knowledge, but I use this app almost daily. That and the feeders have gotten me very attached to the local moochers.
Met up with this lovely lady while weeding. I happily took a break so as not to disturb her any further.

Not loving the "official" #Inktober prompts this year. 🫤Tempted to come up with some of my own. I did the apple for day one. Maybe for the remainder of the month, I can do 30 dogs or 30 Studio Ghibli characters or 30 trees or something.
These are the mushrooms. And also the beautiful tetris geometry of the tomato sandwich that was my lunch.
Oh the #garden shame. I neglected my tomato plants which are doing quite well in the tomato lounge. I had to prune and yank out quite a bit. Mostly from one San Marzano plant that's sprawling like a drunken sailor. I normally do more pruning and training early on. Just been gone a lot this summer. Had to chuck a lot of rotten tomatoes. Also turned off the auto watering. It was so damp under the plants, mushrooms were growing. Will hopefully finish out the season with a bit more care.

Pumpkin #Harvest Time!
This is by far the best pumpkin yield I've ever had. Even though I had many garden fails this year, it's good to have this success.

Been on a road trip in Oregon and Washington the past few days. We have sure lucked out with the weather. Beautiful sights everywhere we go. Able to see so many peaks: Hood, St. Helens, Rainier, Baker. Also, The Retriever loves motels. She does zoomies on the bed then settles in with her bear.

We don't really get to see full sunsets from our house, but tonight I caught a bit of it through the trees.
And! I saw a bat! 🦇
Good night all! Except folks in Australia and Asia - Good morning!
🕸️ Happy "Walk Face First Into an Orb Weaver Spider Web" season to all who celebrate. 🕸️
The verdict is in on the Thessalonkiki tomato - a variety new for me in the garden this year. Mild but tomato-ey. Minimal seeds so possibly sauce. Low acid. Will definitely grow next year. Plus, it makes a very fine tomato sandwich, especially since I made Japanese milk bread specifically for this. And that yummy vegan mayo I like. Top 5 tomato sandwich year. 👍

This is far and away the best breakdown of Gloria Steinem's legacy I've encountered. Therese celebrates her very real acheivements, her relationship with Black feminism, but also gives excellent analysis of Steinem's weaknesses and errors. She was so important to feminism, but to whit:
"A political movement that can't criticize its own heros is just a fan club."

"That's a couch full of dog," said The Big Guy. I agreed and immediately took this picture.

🇺🇸 "Why is that flag at half-assed?" was a thing I said to myself yesterday while seeing a flag at half-mast. I was tired. 😫 Yet these days that phrase somehow makes sense.
But seriously, I saw a not insignificant number of American flags at half-mast yesterday along I-5 but still have not determined why. I have not read any news for 5 days, so I have no idea what's going on other than the usual dumb dystopia.
Green beans! Finally! The plants struggled initially but now that they're climbing up the fence, they look better. And suddenly beans are everywhere. Green beans are like zucchini, if you get lazy about harvest ONE DAY, then the next day they're humongous.

Ugh. So, current artist is using Opera pink for some roses which is not a lightfast color. Big discussion about the fugitive nature of the color, with annoying people asking if there's anything you can do. Which has caused me to start shitposting in the chat box. I might need a nap.
I know I'm frequently bitchy, but this online art workshop I'm doing now is chockablock with annoying, cringey and clueless people. Plus this group, Art School Live, upsells their stuff and their sponsers' stuff relentlessly. The artists' content is good enough so I'm learning stuff. But the dipshits in the chat and QVC like push to buy stuff means I will not be doing one of these again.

We have Friendly Neighbor Dog here doing daycare with us all week. It's pretty much nothing but Wrestlemania interspersed with naps and barking at passersby. I think we need a trip to the park.

Have not been posting much. Not sure why. Anyway, here's a Dahlia that survived and thrived despite my neglect.
