This is your occasional backup reminder - if you haven’t yet, go start setting up backups of any kind.
If you think you don’t need backups, delete everything you have on the device you’re using right now.
If that seems like a bad idea then you need backups.
@mekkaokereke It's infuriating. Granting exceptions to one's standards makes them preferences, not standards. And it would seem that to a lot of people, not being racist is a preference, not a standard.
I was in Toronto for a day and... God... I am not a city girl.
Gotta say... I've heard people tell trans people to not worry about how they look, and that most people aren't paying attention and are just trying to get through their day.
That never made sense to me before, but after seeing the masses of people moving like they're in a trance from place to place, yeah... Other people are just invisible to them.
That said... It recontextualized that advice for me. It's likely said from the perspective of someone used to that kind of place. Because here... In small town Northern Ontario... Everyone notices me. I'm a fucking event when I walk into a place.
So, it makes me wonder... How useful is that advice? Is my usual environment just strangely slow, or is Toronto strangely fast? Does that advice need a revision?
To hell with Google, I'm going back to the only trustworthy source of information left
YOU USED TO BE ABLE TO FIND INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET. i sound insane right now because the internet is a store but it used to be a library
I decided I wanted to do a bunch of feminism/gender study reading, and I decided I'd start off with backwards shit before moving onto decent shit. So (without paying anything for it) I'm reading Gender-Critical Feminism by Holly Lawford-Smith.
Wow... this shit is awful. lol. I do like that it tells on itself in the first chapter. It starts off by talking about a conservative approach to feminism and complaining about intersectionality.
Some of you are "inspired" by seeing Black people fight against the racism done by your own relatives, without addressing that racism head on.
I'm inspired by seeing white people calling out other white people, for the racism that they try to do to Black people, and not letting racist family slide.
Ok. I've come across a few people who otherwise seem fine saying "misandry isn't real" and that makes me raise an eyebrow.
Is there an angle to this? Like, is it trying to say something that's not immediately obvious?
Hey so uhhh
Would you happen to have a thing called the "NVidia App" installed on your computer?
If so, you might want to open it up, go to Settings, and uncheck "Allow AI Agents to Control NVidia App". This checkbox will be on by default if you have not specifically turned it off.
Give an Eevee money and it'll evolve into patreon.
Kid was watching some season 1 Adventure Time and.... Hrmmm.... Yup... This "save the princess for kisses" dynamic is really not playing well with me.
Landlord on the phone: just go on in and take whatever you want, feed on whoever you like
Vampire: trying but I can't get in
Landlord: what, but I invited you in
Vampire: yes but I can't come in, you're sure this is your home? Other people seem to live here
Landlord: yes I own it!
Vampire: you own it, but do you live in it?
Landlord: what does that matter? It's mine
Vampire: it's your *property*, it's not your *home*
Landlord: it's mine! who cares if I live in it?!
Vampire: magic law, why do you want me in anyway
Landlord: the tenants are late on rent, I figure this was a cheaper way to get rid of them...
Vampire: yeah this isn't going to work
Landlord: but don't you need to feed?
Vampire: don't worry, I figured out an alternative, thanks for inviting me in
My mastodon instance of 1 user is getting hammered to its limits by AI scrapers.
Gigabytes of cached data and bandwidth for absolutely nothing.
Low disk space. Energy spikes. Memory spikes. CPU spikes. Human labor...
The cost is truly staggering, and this is for a single instance belonging to a single, otherwise insignificant individual.
Imagine the scale of resource abuse, theft, and climate destruction across the internet.
Just so people can use a shitty #AI prompt on their shitty site.
In case you need to hear this:
Keep looking. They are out there.

Past few days have been hard for me.
I dunno. I've known that the game has been rigged for a long time now. I knew that women were disadvantaged in society. I saw the misogyny in most things down to men being the default option in character creation in games and the language we use... yeah... I got it.
But something shifted. The way like, I see all of society as this man made prison where women are just allowed certain pockets. From jobs, to recreation, to how homes are built, products are designed, laws are written, research done... it's all men focusing on men... until they have a reason to give a shit specifically about women.
And now I just have this constant burning in my chest. I'm just furious. My misandry is just out of fucking control. I'm scared, and angry, and I want to lash out and scream and try and fix shit... but I know I can't. It's not fucking fair. It's not fucking right! I just see the same fucking pattern everywhere. Men are first, women are the afterthought. Even when women are celebrated, I can't help but look at it like appeasement. I want women with actual fucking power.
But what do I do? Most men don't even see it. And even if they do, they don't see or accept just how bad it is. I'm scared I'm becoming too cynical to be logical too.
I might be more inclined to harden my password game if the weak point in every single breach I've ever been exposed in wasn't the company on the other end of my login.
Welcome to #TransTuesday!
There is NO ethical consumption of Harry Potter
Not the books, movies, or tv show. Not licensed games or merch. Not fanfic. Not even pirated.
EVERY bit keeps the franchise alive and enables JKR's transphobia
If you truly care about trans people, you need to let it die

Downloaded King's Quest 6 to show my kid and apparently somewhere along the way GOG started packing the old Sierra adventure games with ScummVM instead of DOSBOX and... god I hate it. When I go to save and it's that ugly ass interface. Takes me out, literally unplayable.
Had to go download DOSBOX.
