Ah! More homework. At 5:20 AM I get a email from Dropbox saying they're deleting my account tomorrow. This is the subsidiary account that actually stores no data, but went over quota anyway some years ago due to a change in how Dropbox calculates quotas (making it possible to go over data quota with zero data). After doing this Dropbox sent me an email once a week for ten years saying I was over quota. Then today I guess switched to "fix it or we delete the account. 24hr deadline". Ok

Since the account is kinda broken (due to the weird quota rule change) maybe Dropbox is doing me a favor by deleting it, but otoh maybe I misremember and there's like… 1 file in there? I should check. It's 5:20 AM why am I awake

@dysfun On Dropbox, if account A shares a folder with account B, the size of the folder is double counted, once against A's quota and once against B's quota. This means if you accept a share link from someone, they can intentionally lock up your account by simply placing an overlarge file in the shared folder.

I unintentionally did this by sharing a large folder from my main account to my otherwise-empty backup account back before that caused the backup account to go over quota.
