Linux: You can't fork Linux!!!!!!
BSD: So uh this shit originally ran on a PDP with a 11-1/2 bit wordsize then it got forked in to AIX, Ultrix, Tru64, DYNIX, SunOS, DomainOS, JunosOS, CellOS, pfSense, the Playstation, Nintendos, and now it just spawns on its own.
so it turns out the display supports up to 255 line segments, so you can just split an image into lines and (veeery slowly) send them all to the display :neofox_woozy:
knowyourmeme.com is now a better search engine than google.
It's honestly astounding that some Chinese vendor isn't making a laptop with a passable keyboard with hardware supported by 9front/NetBSD/Redox.
It almost sounds silly, but we used to do shit like this... a whole bunch of companies made cards that identified as VGA cards and worked perfectly as VGA cards. A whole bunch of vendors made Ethernet cards that for all intents and purposes looked to the OS like an NE2000 card, and just worked perfectly. Pretending to be a device you aren't instantly becomes a problem as soon as you aren't really compat, but if you ARE compat, this is like fucking magic. Instead we continue to plumb the depths of short runs of buggy shit that's completely incompatible with everything. Gimmie the good fake shit again.
Periodic reminder that puberty blockers for trans kids was ALREADY the compromise position. The correct time for trans kids to start cross sex hormones is whenever they want to.
I've been watching for FTP Software's TCP/IP stack and utilities for #Xenix 286. I wonder if Linode's probably Linux kvm even handles 80286 compat. I haven't seen it yet, but #MSDOS FTP Software TCP/IP got listed, for anyone in to that sort of thing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/407307756794
Or if you just want to muck around with Xenix on a 286:

I thought Unix on an 8088/8086 then later 286 was hilarious and insane. That was my original, wow, they really will port Unix to anything.
Or if you have a lead on #TCPSoftware's stack for Xenix 2.x for the 286, hmu. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Don't need originals, only a copy.
And yes, I do intend create a Linode running Xenix 2.x (286).
Wow. Microsoft is now using the Nextcloud logo for their sovereignty washing campaign. https://nextcloud.com/blog/sovereignty-washing-microsoft-cloud/
Advice for female-presenting persons: if a male doctor asks if you've been under stress lately: SAY NO. Tell him life is great. Don't budge. Make the fucker actually figure out what's wrong.
I don't know a single woman who hasn't gotten the stress brush-off, only to get a real diagnosis later.
It's bullshit. Sometimes lying to your doctor is the right thing to do.
Sheesh, heaven forbid a cat have a hobby..

I grew up in a neighbourhood with feral fanged deer that had escaped from a petting zoo at the end of the road. It made for a pretty surreal childhood. It was decidedly in the middle of nowhere and teenagers freed the entire zoo, so you would be hiking and come around the corner to a peacock or a water deer, or a plain old black bear, or an Argentinian goat.
@finn Back in 1988, months as a teen running a Telegard BBS and before bedtime I’d watch my system dial an upstream BBS and down would come fidonet update packs. My users talking to others over a link to link mesh. Felt a lot like that. Seeing 545kb and knowing that it was people’s messages. It was neat. :)

Ah! More homework. At 5:20 AM I get a email from Dropbox saying they're deleting my account tomorrow. This is the subsidiary account that actually stores no data, but went over quota anyway some years ago due to a change in how Dropbox calculates quotas (making it possible to go over data quota with zero data). After doing this Dropbox sent me an email once a week for ten years saying I was over quota. Then today I guess switched to "fix it or we delete the account. 24hr deadline". Ok

I have spent a lot of my career trying to reduce barriers to participation
But removing barriers to participation and removing participation itself are, to me, two different things
