I was in Mexico when I signed up for Uber and it's the only place I ever used it. For years they'd text me promotional offers in Spanish, then they stopped.

This morning I got a text in Spanish with a 2FA login code. So I went to head off whoever was trying to get into my account by logging in and deleting it. Except I apparently no longer had an account? So I unintentionally created a new one and then deleted that.

Makes me wonder if they've split up their systems and my phone number is still associated with a Mexican Uber service that I can't access from here.

Would have been nice if I could have just gotten an anonymous ride in a Mexican taxi instead.

Like a suntanned DEVO on roller skates, the Marina Swingers played novelty #NewWave to otherwise laid-back longhairs in the singles bars around beachy suburban Los Angeles in the late 70s/early 80s. They put out a few 45s, got some #KROQ & #DrDemento airplay, and once performed on #PeterIvers' #NewWaveTheatre local-access TV show. Keyboardist Tony Elka and his wife Eve Howard would go on to found a female friendly, spanking-fetish erotica video company called Shadow Lane that was a focus for that community for decades.

The Inland Power and Light cooperative just sent out an email apologizing that this year there will be no dividend payout to customers because the costs of acquiring electricity rose higher than anticipated and they ended in the red.

We didn't stay for the whole show, which meant we missed Americana band Them Beautiful Hounds, whose record release we went to the other week and who I really like. But we did see Landon Spencer from indie band The Bedheads who I like too, some solo hip-hop from Estimate, Aspen Kye who reminds me of Maria Muldauer and Rickie Lee Jones playing with a great pickup band (I sought out seeing her solo after meeting her when I took my wife to Jesus Christ Taxi Driver for her birthday and Aspen decided to get something from the bar with a candle in it for her), and Scott Ryan Ingersoll with a seriously solid band doing originals in various indie styles.

Then at 9:30 we decided we needed more food than the venue had to offer so we walked over to the closest thing the city has to a New York neighborhood pizza joint. It also is where alt folks who like their guitars loud, fast, and heavy congregate and it turned out they too were having a fire benefit show.

Which meant by 10:30 there were about 40 people who knew each other well hanging out and drinking but no music being played. I couldn't tell you which ones were in the band because at that point we hit the wall after a long day after a long week and went home to sleep.

At the benefit I approached the city council member who was there and she looked at me trying to remember where she knew me from.

"Cle Elum? No... Chewelah?" she asked.

"No," I replied. "Clown video."
