    @jimbob
    That list weirdly parallels my recent efforts to educate my teenage daughter in music history on long drives (she DJs, but we swap songs).

    I was introducing her to Shoegaze via "Soon" just yesterday, because it fit her choices. She really liked it, and said she'd be adding shoegaze to her playlists.

    I also played Mogwai's "Hunted by a Freak", and then ran out of shoegaze ideas, but I said she should check out the whole Loveless album, before detouring into the annus mirabilis that was 1991's album releases.

    I've also played her Teenage Riot (which she liked) and So What (which she got bored with after the first solo - partly because she thought a 10min song was cheating).

    I also introduced her to Riot grrrl via "Rebel Girl", because she's into Mitski.

    And to top it off, she's reading Camus' "The Stranger", so I was talking about "Killing an Arab", and how Robert Smith changed the lyrics to "Kissing an Arab" after 9/11.

    (And I also sang Metallica's "One" at the office Xmas karaoke a couple of years back while drunkenly telling everyone how awesome Lars Ulrich's right foot-work is the whole way through.)
