    Women shouldn't have to anticipate violence.

    This month marks three years since the EU joined the Istanbul Convention, a landmark treaty recognising gender-based violence against women as a violation of human rights.

    It sets out concrete measures to prevent it, to protect victims, and hold perpetrators accountable.

    Our goal is clear: a world where women can live free from fear. 🧡

    Put on a pride wig and visit the AFD areas of Germany, MEET BRUTAL REALITY.

    Nobody who is not openly fascist and white skin has any chance of safety there.

    @EUCommission cool, et qu'est ce qui est mit en place concrètement ? Signer un traité c'est génial d'un point de vue théorique mais dans les faits, qu'est ce qui est mit en place pour parvenir à faire respecter cet engagement ?

    @EUCommission Women must live free from fear, but we must also ask: Is violence against women actually increasing, or is greater awareness leading to more reporting? What are the root causes, poor upbringing, social attitudes, lack of respect for consent, or weak law enforcement? Sexual attraction is natural, but controlling one's behaviour is a personal responsibility. No clothing, conduct or provocation can justify violence. We need honest analysis, not just slogans.

    One would suppose by the phrasing that other kinds of gendered based violence is not a violation of human rights.

    Please explained when terror living under the threat of violence is tolerable for anyone.

    @Drew @EUCommission

    Let’s presume all people have a right to life and liberty.

    Now the EU says “hey let’s treat women as if they are people too”

    I know I know female personhood is a novelty.. 🙄

    I would agree if it would be pointing at the problem of violence against women and what is being done about it.

    But the statement that "... landmark treaty recognising gender-based violence against women as a violation of human rights." directly states 'gender-based violence against women as a violation'.

    It is written as if violence wasn't against human rights in the first place, and that it is recognized as a violation only if its against women.

    @The_Universality

    It is very poorly rendered. You’ve pointed out another reason why it chafes.

    The sense I took away from it initially was that women were being gifted equality of rights through EU munificence. And that kind of stinks.

    You’ve fingered the converse problem. The dirty laundry about SA is that males are 50% of the victim population*

    * this is a US statistic, but I do not have any reason to believe it’s different elsewhere

    @EUCommission

    Wait? Is violence against others (not just woman) not against human rights?

    Because if it wouldn't be, why define strictly gender-based violence against women?

    Also, if we are so for a world where "women can live free from fear", thus this mean we are allowing women to be armed?
    Or is it just the usual "politely ask the attacker to wait until you finish calling 112 and the 10~15 minutes until police arrives"?

    Good to know EPP/EVP
    I want a world where everone can live without fear.
    If that's what you want too - just resign and let better people do your job. I think we earned it.
