Oooh, new The Diplomat for our telly viewing, this evening.
It’s such an absurd show and it’s full of melodramatic nonsense if compared to the real world BUT I love that about it AND also think the performances are great AND I love the production AND it’s definitely earning its image as a child of The West Wing.
Quite aside from all that, though, I also simply cannot pretend I’m not thinking it:

Long after they finished discussing TWW in such a genuinely interesting way, Hrishikesh Hirway (Song Exploder, etc) and Joshua Malina (TWW, etc) are now considering The Diplomat.
They’re only up to s01 e02, so far, but I have high hopes for it developing into a similarly interesting exploration of the show, the themes it explores, and the creation of tv in general.
