Been a while. Here’s an quick #AmperSand formed of only broken shells, and put together at Gullane Bents in East Lothian.

Both kids are at unexpected sleepovers tonight! We have an evening free!

…so we’re planning on being in bed by 10:00pm so we can wake up early to get in the car and go foraging on National Trust property at dawn.

I don’t know what level of maturity this is, but I think I may possibly have feared it, back in my youth.

…honestly, though: we’re having a GREAT weekend! 😁

It’s my birthday so, as the tradition seems to be developing, I grabbed my camera and headed off to have a little explore by myself in the dawn light.

Down by the docks in Leith, this time. I’m really going to miss those visiting yellow giants when they’re gone.

One of my favourite things on the internet is the footage of sandwiches made by this guy:

Being human makes us capable of evil, and we all are, every one of us.

But it also makes us capable of resisting the urge to evil.

Be the resistance.

I wrote this while listening to the following podcast:

I see it’s 30 years to the day since Jeru The Damaja released Wrath Of The Math.

Honestly this guy’s flow and delivery on here (and everything else he’s done) is just the stuff of absolute classic hip hop. A pleasure for our ears.

Also I always really liked his use of Miles Davis in the intro for this album. Probably not for everyone, but it worked really well for me.

Ooh, I’ll take that.

…oh, and you may (if you like that sort of thing) wish to explore The West Wing Weekly podcast.

https://thewestwingweekly.com

Long after they finished discussing TWW in such a genuinely interesting way, Hrishikesh Hirway (Song Exploder, etc) and Joshua Malina (TWW, etc) are now considering The Diplomat.

They’re only up to s01 e02, so far, but I have high hopes for it developing into a similarly interesting exploration of the show, the themes it explores, and the creation of tv in general.

Oooh, new The Diplomat for our telly viewing, this evening.

It’s such an absurd show and it’s full of melodramatic nonsense if compared to the real world BUT I love that about it AND also think the performances are great AND I love the production AND it’s definitely earning its image as a child of The West Wing.

Quite aside from all that, though, I also simply cannot pretend I’m not thinking it:

Keri Russell.

Cor.

Ooooh, I'd love one of these.

It really has been quite a while since I've found a way to suggest Concrete Schoolyard... Must see if I can't sort that out some time soon.

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist

Another guest theme, this time brought to you by @MrAndrewD who wants to hear your favourite songs about:

The Clap

Will it be two hours of the greatest hits of Val Doonican, or will we allow some lesser tunes to be played? Spray your ideas all over #ThePlaylistSuggestion, or use the submission form at https://djdarren.site/archive/suggestions/ (which I promise I'll actually remember to look at this week...) and together we'll put together yet another excellent* couple of hours of radio.
_
*excellence not guaranteed.

Oh, and when ponderatin' your suggestions, consider referring to #TheDatabase to see if what's in your head was played a couple of weeks ago. Because if it was, unless it's Concrete Schoolyard by Jurassic 5 it's probably not getting another airing.

Behold this week's edition of #ThePlaylist.

This week:

You know all those tracks where the lyrics say one thing, but people stubbornly refuse to accept them? Well, those songs have been:

Misconstrued

We wanted to hear your favourite examples of these, and you didn’t disappoint.

#TheArchive - https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/theplaylist-125-misconstrued/

Listen! Enjoy! Tell all your friends!

Look, go birds and Fly Eagles Fly and all those good things, sure.

…but have we maybe considered playing with an offensive line that is any stronger than rice paper? I feel it could really help.

…No gumbo this time. Fried chicken, tonight.

Tonight’s #Coleslaw in progress reminds me, or at least is making me think, of New Orleans.

No beach or #AmperSand action from me, today, but my sister and her son sent me these, which they made on the shore in Portishead! Whoop!

In the words of the mighty Arlo Guthrie: “…And friends, they may think it’s a movement!”

Thanks to some bigots with too big a platform, the subjects of race / ethnicity / nationality / identity have been appearing across The UK Media a lot, recently.

And honestly: my knowledge of these subjects is a bit limited. Certainly I’m not sure I could pass even a GCSE-level exam on it. Maybe I could, but I don’t know.

So I’ve been doing some online reading and trying to freshen up on key terms and ideas.

Interesting/important stuff! Would recommend.

I’d love to go back to school.

Give that headline writer a raise. 👏 👏 👏

In primary school (1960s), we learned that mountain areas above 3,000 m altitude in the Alps had eternal snow.

I'm afraid we're seeing the end of that.
Matterhorn, 4,478 m high, last week.
