A very cool thing - not done by me, though I helped a bit in review.

Ryan McDonald implemented non-destructive text transforms! You can now apply standard 2D transforms (scale, rotate, etc) and still edit the text afterwards. Now all our vector-type layers can be transformed non-destructively!

Now I need to update a few of our vector export plug-ins like SVG and PDF to support exporting text with transforms. :)

Video of the GIMP workspace. A demo of Ryan McDonald's "Non-destructive text transforms". A text layer with the words "Editable Text!" is added to the screen. It is then scaled and re-edited to say "Editable Text is still editable!" while retaining its scale. A rotation is applied as well, and again the text can be edited. The undo history is demonstrated to work as well.

@hellocatfood I believe so - the text layer stores a transform matrix just like link layers do, so you can do any transformation. I just did a quick video to demo it, but the other tools like Flip and Shear (and the equivalent operations in the Unified Transform tool) work as well.
