    No, John. *You* have lost your fucking mind.

    Wow. I’m just— I can’t even—

    Wow.

    I can’t help reading bits of it this way:

    "THE CULTURE ON X TODAY IS REMARKABLY FRIENDLY AND INCLUSIVE. IT IS A CHEERFUL PLACE. IF YOU BELIEVE THE WORLD IS FALLING APART AND DOOMED ONLY TO GET WORSE, THAT OUR OBVIOUS AND REAL PROBLEMS CANNOT BE SURMOUNTED, X IS NOT THE PLATFORM FOR YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! J.GRUBER”

    @octothorpe This, to me, and in my eyes, is the written equivalent of digging your fucking grave. What a colossal dipshit.

    @morrick Well, I too, was mostly having a very good experience on Twitter, but this did not prevent me to start having a Mastodon account in 2017, because back then Twitter moderation was clearly not enough for it to avoid becoming a fascists lair on the long run (which went true very fast in 2023).

    “I met people at a nazis club the other day. They were nice to me, I now have the membership card of the club. Cheers!”

    @morrick in my own experience, it's literally impossible to have any kind of political discussion on Twitter because the algorithm, which you can't opt out of, WILL put your tweet in front of hundreds of people with a radical form of views exactly opposite to yours, with a very predictable result. What the fuck is he even talking about

    @grishka For me, he has now lost what little credibility he still had. The only reason I won’t remove his blog from my feeds is to point and make fun at all his terrible takes and tone-deafness.

    @morrick @grishka You do you, but really, free your mind from him entirely. Don’t give him the clicks. And your outrage may feel good in the moment, but ultimately it’s not healthy, and if you just ditch his goat-sniffing ass, you won’t have to get outraged about it at all.

    @morrick @grishka I am curious as to what his wife and kids(?) think about him supporting a person who actively engages in rape apologies, CSAM generation, and antisemitism (etc).

    @morrick

    I wish I had better documented my shift from Xitter to Mastodon…I'm certain there was a tipping point in there some place because I clearly remember the fediverse feeling pretty quiet with very few folks I followed and Xitter having most of my social circles. Yet somehow most of the interesting folks I followed moved off Xitter—some to Bluesky, others to the fediverse—leaving very little of interest on the birdsite.

    I remember a distinct "Huh, it's been two weeks since I checked in on birdsite" so I opened it up and found very little that I'd missed. About 3–6 accounts that I miss getting updates from on the fediverse (our local police department, the nearest national weather service office, and a couple humor/tech accounts) that lingered there. But for the most part, it's largely dead to me. I just don't know when that transition actually happened.

    @gumnos I left Twitter in early 2025. I had been meaning to leave earlier than that, but there was a good network of people I had cultivated there, and some were still reaching out via Twitter DMs.

    But then enough was enough, I locked the account and stopped posting, urging others to migrate away. A surprisingly small amount of folks listened. That made me bitter, and I thought, “Maybe I have overestimated these people”. And so I left with no regrets.

    @morrick slowly, gradually, moving from one place to another in the Fediverse is very thought-provoking.

    I have half a mind to write about it in a few weeks. I might resurrect an archaic blog.
