    Platform: Arch (Linux)
    Environment: Sway (Wayland)
    No I do not have an input manager/method running
    Yes I poked around in the settings looking for anything that appeared relevant

    This is a fresh install on a new machine without imported settings from any previous install. (So it might be something I turned off in an earlier version?)

    @cliffle

    ahh- (not on this machine) i have a launcher script that forces an x11 compatibility for kicad as wayland messes a lot up.

    the kicad team doesn't really want to support wayland as its implementation isn't uniform or consistent enough across all distros yet, and they don't want to kludge/bugfix for every variation.

    this became more of an issue with recent versions of gnome in which x11 compatibility is being gutted

    I'm using F-44 with gnome on wayland

    @cliffle

    this is how I launch kicad:

    flatpak run --nosocket=wayland --nosocket=fallback-x11 --socket=x11 org.kicad.KiCad

    and since using this it behaves as it always has done previously

    @fullywoolly @maya_b heh, amusingly, most of the things they list as issues with Wayland are Kicad features that drive me nuts, and I turn off

    - cursor warping
    - remembering where to put the windows (on i3 it would gradually walk the add component window right off the screen unless I dragged it back)

    I'm going to keep testing on Wayland for now, tbh I bet a lot of what they've hit is GNOME-specific.

    @cliffle @maya_b I haven't used KDE or anything else in a minute. I did try i3 once at work but I had approx 50 billion browser windows and tabs open and the tiles were infinitesimally small. It was a real problem navigating and was hampering my work too much. I didn't give it a fair chance.

    @fullywoolly i3 (and Sway, which is more or less an i3 workalike) can switch a desktop into tabbed or stacked view rather than tiled. That's what I do for my browsers. I only use tiling for terminals, in practice.

    @cliffle oh I didn't make it that far. That's really helpful to know!

    I'll have to give it another go

    @fullywoolly You may also find the container feature (a window containing multiple window, with its own layout setting) useful.
    When working at the desk with a large, wide monitor, I like using a two- or three-column (split-horizontally) top-level layout where every column contains multiple windows in a tabbed or split-vertically layout. When I take the laptop with me, the overall layout stays the same, I just convert those top-level horizontally-split top-level layouts to tabbed – the internal layout stays the same.

    @hillu @cliffle that sounds super handy. I mostly avoided docking at my last job to keep it from deciding how to rearrange for me.

    @cliffle Wayland support is iffy and might be contributing. I downgraded back to X due to problems.
