The "AI is so powerful it's an existential threat" claim is marketing bullshit. AI has no initiative. It has no culpability. It's no more dangerous than a chainsaw - it *can* be dangerous, but only when driven by a human who makes it so.
And that's the key - all responsibility here for harms caused by the AI directly, or the AI industry indirectly, resides purely on the humans who are misusing the technology, laws, money and power to cause harm to society. When you force a datacenter into a town and cause a water shortage, it's not a clever business trick - you're a soulless asshole who is hurting people. When you collude to raise RAM prices - again, because this isn't the first time - it's a pattern and practice of abuse of power, not an accidental result of too much demand.
We need to stop letting the criminals driving this pretend that their product is the problem as opposed to their own bad choices and behavior. It is, at best, their monster, but the AI didn't create the situation or train and prompt itself.
