Look here, Beelzebub, you don’t do it

@minmi So you're saying we're being railroaded?

California is treating this billionaire tax like a nepo baby treats threats of being cut off.

We can stand on our own two feet. Daddy can take his money and shove it.

These people aren't underwater.
Argentine artist Leandro Erlich's Swimming Pool (2004), at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, creates the illusion of people standing at the bottom of a pool.
The illusion is surprisingly simple: just 4 inches (10 cm) of real water rests on a transparent glass surface. Beneath it is a dry, blue-walled chamber that visitors can walk into.

I am reminded again how in 1935, the US Congress passed a tax law that created a new top tax bracket of nearly 80%.

That tax bracket contained exactly one person, John D. Rockefeller, and was designed to stop him from causing so much trouble.

In case anyone needs the precedent.

Just imagine if it was like

“Trains are the way of the future! Anyone not taking a train to work will be fired.”

“See? Everyone loves trains, you can tell cause everyone is riding them! Trains are inevitable.”

it's Ursula Day! 💓

“You cannot buy the revolution. You cannot make the revolution. You can only be the revolution. It is in your spirit, or it is nowhere.”

“My imagination makes me human and makes me a fool; it gives me all the world and exiles me from it.”

and 50 more quotes.....

Done! Sewed my first real pants, first pair of denim jeans, first Japanese selvedge denim jeans, first hand buttonhole... lots of things learned here. These are way above my normal fashion level, lol. (T-shirt and cargo pants, normally beaten up and dusty and/or looking like I just was in the garden or hiking) 🤪 multicolor belt loops just for fun because the Serger got reloaded and is now rainbow colored, lol, no significance to the colors. #sewing #selvedgedenim #denimjeans #jeansproject

The woman who cuts my hair does an awesome job. Haircuts look great for a long time. But she always styles my hair to look so weird when I’m leaving her chair.

I really look like Hook right now.

Today I just want to send blessings to the inventors of soup. Matriarchs long past, you have really saved my life this week.

My 3yo has adopted some phrases where he perfectly mimics an adults mannerisms, word choice and intonation but he is tiny and still has a 3yos pronunciation and i cannot express how helpless this makes me. It is so funny and so cute. I really wish I could catch it on film but I don’t think I ever will.

I know there will come a moment when the eyes of strangers stop looking at my boys with indulgence and start looking at them with fear

And I know it’s going to come way too soon

This made me cry—in a good way—as I thought about myself and my dad.

Mike Monteiro answers this question, but it’s not just for prospective parents: “My spouse and I are going to start trying to have kids soon, but I’m scared of all the ways our lives will change. How do I let go of that fear?”

I was browsing the introduction hashtag and it looks like interesting ppl are joining but then I saw three posts in a row with very similar structures, including an AI generated (seeming) image of a pet at the end.

Is there some weird bot thing happening or are people just happening to post really similar intros?

I was out walking with my girlfriend, and we found a new Fedi reaction pic.

Visiting Hampshire this weekend to say goodbye, I was struck by the sense memory of having been somewhere, once, where I was trusted and supported by the institution & community as a whole. Where everyone believed that me following my interests, values and passions was not a threat to others but a benefit to them. Where I could find & be my authentic self and that was inherently a gift to others.

So much of the world, even good places and good people, are pervaded by a sense of precarity. A feeling like you have to justify yourself to deserve support. If I can find more ways to bring that sense memory, that ethos and lived practice, into our needlessly precarious world, then I can think of no better way to keep Hampshire alive

Over the past decade, afforestation and reforestation have been estimated to remove around 2.2 billion tonnes (2.4 billion tons) of CO₂ from the atmosphere each year—roughly equivalent to the annual fossil-fuel CO₂ emissions across the entire European Union. Despite this, large-scale forestation competes for land with food production and livelihoods, and its success depends on secure land rights and institutions that can support and protect projects over time
