It’s taken many months but I have finally gone through my entire image library and given everything at least one useful category. There are loads of saved images but mostly photos I’ve taken since the late 90s, so I’ve also deleted duplicate, blurred, etc ones, roughly 75000 of those.
Now taking a backup of it all.
Silvery Moon through silver birch.
Losing my mind over the official 2026 class photo of the Swiss Federal Council including the conditions of its own production.
An ex-colleague recommended I apply for a job on their team. They’re not the hiring manager but I expected to at least get an interview. No.
It’s a job title I’ve had for 15 years, in an industry I’ve worked in for over 20 years. I came up with some of the foundational stuff they still use. I’ve done everything on the job description, I know the terminology, the scope of the business, I’ve done years of user research with the people who use it… and I don’t even get a fucking interview?
Also this. I’ve turned this off in @ivory a couple of hours ago, and it’s turned itself back on. Haven’t restarted or anything, why does a setting not stay off?
As well as the PHP and the CMS thing, the thing that runs the site locally had a “ERROR runtime update required. Go to Services > Runtimes > Something something” and guess what, there’s no such place. I found it in somewhere totally other than that.
Is everyone else bored of tech too? Can we have things where there’s no adding features, no ‘we changed everything’ pointless crap.
A tangential entry to the hashtag, maybe. In the early evening this house gets the reflections from the windows of the house opposite. #FensterFreitag
My Dad needs a new TV, and I’m worried he’s going to end up being sold some adware or spyware. He’s going to Curry’s (UK) so he can see what the picture on them is like. Anyone able to recommend good TVs made by trustworthy companies?
He won’t go anywhere else, despises computers and will view my concerns as being paranoid nonsense, so please no “just use Linux and knit your own media server” stuff please. 😅
Had another gardening tool casualty though, after 12 years the broom finally disintegrated. It’s had two new handles, a new wing nut and a fair few general tweaks and repairs, so it’s done a great job. Now that I have a shed the replacement can stay dry in there. #gardening
Many years ago I planted a pampas grass because I liked the flowers (sigh, no, not that). Trouble is, the leaves are like kitchen knives and it grew very, very big, and I was getting sliced too often. So I dug it out, it was huge, and I broke the spade getting it out. For a few years this great lump of a root ball sat on the patio, covered to stop it regrowing. At last today I cleared it and reclaimed the patio. It’s now a really nice mulch, and there’s lots of it. 🥳 #gardening
October, octobering. 😒
It’s definitely that time of year. Squish, drip, plip, plop.
I don’t often interrupt people, in fact I rarely do. So rarely it’s almost never. BUT. “The thing I liked about Anne Widdecombe was she spoke the truth, unl…”
Yes, I was rude, I interrupted. Not having that.
After* the conversation I just had, out there in the real world where *people* are, I think we need mandatory media awareness training for everyone before they’re allowed on the internet.
* I thought this before, but now, especially now.
Also, while I’m moaning… “What’s new in [app]” screens that block you from using the app immediately can please get in the bin. It’s a complete “screw your user journey, our egos need airing”.
Computers are really very annoying now.
Oh we logged you out because whatever oh that’s not the right password oh actually it is but verify you’re human anyway by identifying what Americans consider to be breakfast food (donuts!?) and oh there was a problem how about upgrading to a passkey to fix it and how about you give us more personal data oh well then here’s the page you asked for nope it’s the home page again fooled you ALERT someone logged in as you on a device we’ve never seen before!
Actually I think I prefer this version. Makes a good wallpaper.
The starlings have discovered the grape vine so I thought I’d better harvest and juice some before they smash the lot to pieces. There’s loads left for them and other birds, this is just the (ahem) low hanging fruit. And a shield bug along for the ride. #selfie
