A huge congratulations to Olivia Chow and the incredible slate of progressive councillors elected in Toronto tonight.

This win goes beyond any one person or campaign — it’s the result of years of movements organizing together, from tenant unions to climate activists, migrant rights advocates and those on the front lines of harm reduction. You mobilized and knocked on every last door to make this happen.

Tonight, you’ve secured a better future for Toronto together.

I do not want a folding iPhone unless that makes it *smaller* and takes the screen *away* from my field of view.

I certainly don't want another goddamn screen on the outside. When I put it away, I want it to GO AWAY.

That's even before the screens ~cracked~ on Day 1.

Just saying.

Well this is eleventy-million kinds of Fucked Up. LA Times (who once contracted with me as a freelance reviewer and whom I struggled to get paid by) asserts that *merely reading its website* constitutes a permanent waiver of your right to sue it under *any circumstances*. This means that freelancers like me who read the website would lose the right to sue the company if we got stiffed. #consenttheater #bindingarbitration #dickovers

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream, 1000 acre park and improved public transit, not only did it TRANSFORM the city’s public life and economic success, but the car traffic got better.

The car traffic got BETTER.

Everyone who's not a scumbag: it's time to get to work.

#BC is about to experience what Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, along with half the #USA states, have been living with for a long time: a provincial government that actively attacks Indigenous peoples, trans people, women, people of colour, and immigrants.

#BCPol #CanPol #Vancouver #VanPol #conservatives #NDP

So, the #BCNDP screwed up so bad that they just elected our newly formed and galvanized #ConservativeParty of #BC.

It's about to get *bad* and stay *bad* here, probably for a decade.

Does anyone know of a #Linux #Email programme that's suitable for #Gnome and fully interacts with #labels?

As in, it has the option of applying multiple labels to a message (rather than converting labels to folders)?

EDIT: Solved now, went with Claw-Mail, which meets my needs exactly both in feature set and UX, thanks everyone (except you. You know who you are.)

Is there a #Linux desktop GUI email client that doesn't Fucking Suck?

I'm getting pretty tired of having to periodically check my Gmail tab, and also I want to start using my own email domains for more things, and the webmail for those sucks.

Last time I had this impulse I tried Thunderbird and fucking hated it. Particularly because it took me the better part of a day to stop it loading on boot.

I'm looking for something lightweight with a fairly traditional UI.

My first experience with institutional email was with Novell software, and it remains the most comfy I've ever used, if that helps

mmh… something went very wrong, i guess

If you're interested in the #StandUp *industry*, this video is really interesting. It's #AdamConover talking about why he's releasing his special on YouTube, and he gets into the nitty gritty.

“If you don’t use AI you’re going to get left behind.”

Gosh, I sure hope so. I see where you’re going and it sucks.

FUCKING #Microsoft

Word had just started emitting a popup asking me to enable "Connected Experiences" when I go to select stuff from a old, locked Word doc. LOL no.

A brief search suggests the only way to shut this shit down is to deinstall & then reinstall Word.

Yeah, right. If I have to go to those lengths, LibreOffice it is, thanks!

Fucking #Enshittification

Periodic reminder, especially to my fellow Canadians, when us anglophones say "North America," we really mean "Canada and the US," and we're implicitly removing Mexico. In which case, IMO, we should say that rather than being xenophobic to Mexicans and Latin@s in general.

Is anyone interested in giving free advice about #unions and general unioning?

Finally adding stickers to my computer.

I DON’T point this out to weaken our resolve to achieve BETTER THINGS FOR CITIES! But it’s a reality that MUST intentionally be part of the work/strategy. Unfortunately we too often make it easy to reverse good change by failing/refusing to communicate (“sell”) its merits persuasively to the public.

When it comes to actually achieving better cities, here’s something we’re not talking about nearly enough— we’ve moved from eras where it’s hard to get good things done, into an era where even if we manage to get good things done, there’s a real risk it will just be reversed after the next election.

This is just the beginning, but I think it's still going to be a slow burn.

The bubble will not pop as fast as we hope. And it may not pop as fast as we need.

Trillions will take a long time to burn through.
