    @hattifattener @beep

    Thank you!

    In reverse order: no, thanks for the recommendation; it's infosec for workers at a tech company, not all of whom are tech workers.

    @eswag I would be happy to chat about infosec for a nascent union movement at a tech company (which I think is the shape of what you're asking?). Or general tech industry unioning things.

    @eswag I know only the basics, but here they are:

    You need to care about each other to organize. You need it for solidarity. There's a reason unions have cookouts.

    It doesn't matter if individual members of the employers' team is friendly or congenial, they will FIGHT you tooth and nail even if what you propose would benefit them. It's about power, but it's also ideological-going-on-pathological.

    @eswag You must make broscialists--men who simply want to rule the union--uncomfortable and unwelcome. They don't care. They just like power.

    Do not organize at work. Do not use work-based channels of communication. Use Signal. Gather across town at a coffee shop. Do NOT let the employers know you're coming. They'll pull out every dirty trick against you, and until you've experienced it, you have no idea how low they'll stoop.

    @eswag It will probably take two or three attempts to get the union certified. Don't be discouraged. That's just how it goes.

    If there are related worker groups you want to organize, "salt" them: get union organizers hired into the group so that they can learn the culture and organize from within.

    @eswag Learn the law where you live. Figure out how to certify before the employer even knows you've done it. Ideally, the day they find out is the day you tell them you're already be a legally recognized union.

    @eswag I cannot emphasize enough how much community comes first. The first step in organizing is to get to know each other. Develop bonds of trust. Socialize. Make friends. Learn about each other's working conditions. Figure out what everyone needs. From there, you build a union.

    @eswag I heard an interview with three women who organized America's 2nd ever stripper bar. They had a jump start on it because they all *cared* about each other already, so when one of the managers treated "Wanda" badly, they all went, "Hey, we *like* Wanda. Screw you!"
