So I received a little pushback on the idea that Google should be nationalized and it should be broken up with the assertion that breaking up Google will necessarily farm aisle, all sorts of private data and risk exposing everyone it has knowledge of identity, theft, or something like that.

It’s a little strange because the premises that the government something that used to keep all sorts of sensitive personal records like tax or health information..

Would just casually pass on people’s information to a random business environment.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. Granted, right now the federal government has been repurposed into a gigantic human trafficking organization.

Yet somehow we’re supposed to believe that Google is a responsible keeper of our information. Please

Old enough to remember when they broke up AT&T, and recall all the hand wringing about it. And, of course, this single action ushered in the amazing explosion in telecommunications that has reshaped the world. Don't listen to the nay-sayers, monopolies are terrible things and must be demolished.

Kind of crazy as well because all the monopoly’s have reconstituted themselves, except as privately owned entities.

So I’m a little bit on the fence about this sort of thing because I think there needs to be a balance of a national service with the ability of private enterprise of being able to inject new ideas, but I don’t even necessarily think it needs to be private enterprise.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell Perfect is the enemy of the good. These actions are complicated and require great political power to effect. Sometimes compromise is the only way to get things done. But the critical thing is to break up the monopoly, because the longer it exists, the more it concentrates power.
