I have a bunch of PortableApps installs with different things in them and I got annoyed with updating one, then updating another, and another so I made a script, a bit like NVDASync to manage it for me. Would anyone find that useful perhaps? If so I'll github the thing.

@batworx Please let me know how you get on, if there's any issues etc. Obviously local testing but it's when you pass to users when you see the real issues crop up. Oh and I updated S-YXG2026 with an updater you can run from the archive. I also tried to make GS add the Roland effects by using XG equivalents.

@FreakyFwoof I have always used their Platform application for that. Have you encountered issues with it?

@davidbcohen That's just the main site, is there a specific app that will keep one copy synced with another? That's what my script does.
IE if I update the version on e: and don't want to have to run the f: installer and get the *exact* same apps, I run my script and it sees what's new and updates it.

Never occurred to me to install it more than once - as the apps don’t run in the background (being portable) I have mine installed all together in one instance. Then the app keeps them all up to date for me.
What does having multiple instances get you (apart from your own organisation)?
@davidbcohen Well, sometimes I leave the house with one external drive, sometimes with another, other copies I keep on-device but only a handful of them. It's just about options and choices. PortableApps itself is what we're talking about, and that is what I want to keep up to date.
IE: If I update LibreOffice, Zoom, Chrome and Firefox on drive e, then I have to run the updater for F and go through the exact same steps. My script sees what's new, what's old and syncs the differences from a list of configured paths. It's really useful.
It's also that I have different drives for different purposes. If I'm going to fix a client's PC I don't want my personal drive connected to it, rather my disposable option. things like that.

@FreakyFwoof now that actually sounds cool! you said portable installs. That did confuse me for a second. I know I would love something like that for my portable programs folder I have. if somehow it could look at that folder and go, oh you have teamtalk 5.21, that is old, let me update that. you also have VOLlama, let me see if that needs updated. Like I said, that could be really cool.

@lerven @JamminJerry I use it all the time for Calibre, portable web browsers when I don't want to have it installed, even zoom works that way. PuTTY, WinSCP etc. Means I can carry my settings from place to place without losing anything.

@FreakyFwoof Is this from potableapps.com? I think they actually have a platform for that. I just download the programs themselves, though. But if it's not from there, it would probably be a great idea to publish this script, since it can be very helpful.
@dandylover1 Yeah, it syncs your updates between drives. imagine you download something really big like LibreOffice, that's a 600+ MB download. I keep two copies of stuff installed on e: and f:, and I run the installer on E, and then have to run it on F. Well I did before my script. Now I don't have to.
@FreakyFwoof Why wouldn't you just copy the installed version from E to F? You don't need to reinstall it. It's portable.
@dandylover1 Why would I copy when a script does it for me? Lots of tiny files and not all of them get updated, and sometimes it's 12 apps at a time.
