It would require it sending a lot more unauthenticated requests for public statuses and contexts to remote instances. Would that be a nuisance?
It already sends a proper user agent and I can make it obey robots.txt or whatever.

I'm leaning towards making a rather basic caching proxy for public use. This will mean no IP/UA exposure to the instances but full exposure to the proxy operator (me, by default) on the pinky promise of not looking or god forbid indexing.
Still talking only about public/unlisted posts that some extension user saw on their instance.
Maybe it should be a proper fedi server itself so it can be suspended by those who hate it. Idk.
Jul 7, 2023, 3:07 PMThere's also a problem with instances blocked by the user's instance (still planning to implement that!) and much less clear cut question of accessing instances that block the user's one (is there even a reliable way to know?)
