Imagine you find an internet service that is useful to you. It's provided by a company in another country, but you find them trustworthy. There's a free option, but you consider buying a subscription. The price is significantly lower than e.g. Netflix or Spotify. You find the service is worth the money and you can afford it.

The question is: do you find it unprofessional / unfriendly / bad if the taxes are included in the price, or if they are excluded?

Example for "included":
»1.23 § per month (includes 0.23 § taxes)«

Example for "excluded":
»1.00 § per month (not including taxes)«
or
»1.00 § per month (not including 0.23 § taxes)«

Note: the question is only about the pricing page. The payment page lists without-tax, tax and with-tax amounts explicitly.

The answer probably depends on how pricing works in your area, so please answer accordingly.

Ganz anders in Deutschland. Plädoyer für ein Umdenken.«

Operating a #CloudService that really respects #privacy is complicated: #GDPR forbids storing personal data (incl. IP addresses) that's not strictly required. Consequently, the website of my @ChronoLink service never logs IP addresses. As all hosters I knew do that, I had to self host. But a separate server is wasteful/cumbersome, and sharing one with the service itself is risky. 😕

As of last Saturday, I have a solution: let https://www.statichost.eu/ host it. Thanks @puresick for suggesting them!

However, @chronolink is a general-purpose calendar synchronization service. So even if you're not interested in time tracking or issue tracking data, you can just use it to synchronize certain or all events between Google and Microsoft accounts, or between your work account and your private account.

In any case, you're entitled to chuckle about the complex solution to a niche problem outlined in this thread. That's fine. I'm happy anyway. 😊

The service also lets you set up fine-grained rules of what to synchronize and how the events should look like. For example, one could set the event color based on which project the Jira issue (or Clockodo time entry) belongs to. One could also set up prefixes for certain cases, like the emoji in my screenshot (see the image description for details).

So if you read this far, you are probably interested in any of this.

In your #GoogleCalendar, #Outlook.com or #ExchangeOnline account, create an additional calendar so that you can show/hide the Jira data as needed. Then, sign up on https://www.chronolink.app/ using your Google or Microsoft account. Finally, connect your #Jira server and set up a synchronization connection as described at https://www.chronolink.app/userguide/systems/atlassian-jira/.

That's it for this use case! But there's more...

🧵

Anyway, personally I'm very happy to have "scratched my own itch" as we developers like to say. As you can see in the screenshot in the opening post, it has helped me tremendously with getting the entries in both systems to match. 🥳

Also, two of my colleagues are synchronizing their worklogs now, too. (The service in general has more users, but those use it for other things.)

🧵

Obviously, #Clockodo is not used as widely as other #TimeTracking apps, so (for now) you will probably only get to reuse one half of my solution.

Still, I'm pretty sure that seeing your Jira work logs in a calendar view can already help quite a bit in identifying gaps. Also, remember that you can now see work logs side by side with your regular events, e.g meetings.

The time tracking system that my company uses, #Clockodo, has a nice calendar-like page where one can easily see which times have been logged on what projects and quickly identify any gaps.

Unfortunately, #Atlassian #Jira does not.

So I had the crazy idea of synchronizing both to my work calendar. That became part of my plans for my @chronolink #Calendar #Synchronization service.

Clockodo was already integrated, but last week I implemented the Jira integration.

Often, companies have their employees log the time they spend on individual Jira issues. But most companies have a separate system for overall time tracking which is used for invoicing, so employees need to make entries there, as well.

Ideally, both systems should match. In practice, that can be hard if one jumps back and forth between several topics and/or switches between internal stuff and work for different customers. All that means one deals with several Jira issues per day.

Last week, I finished a piece in my #CalendarSynchronization puzzle that I had planned to build for years: synchronizing work logs entries made inside #Jira issues to my #Calendar.

So, why on earth would anyone need this? In this thread, I'll outline the background and explain how you can set this up, as well - just in case you are among the maybe 10 persons on this planet who need this! 😉

But first, here's a screenshot of the result (real data, text redacted).

Cons:
- Build quality is acceptable but underwhelming for the price point.
- Bulky, relatively awkward shape of each module makes it much less portable than conventional models designed for portability.
- Keyboard has two halves which can make it awkward to use from a seated position without a desk.
- No dedicated media keys on the primary layer.

Finally, there's an extensive review of my favorite #ErgonomicKeyboard, the MoErgo #Glove80, on RTINGS.com:
https://www.rtings.com/keyboard/reviews/moergo/glove80

For office use, Glove80 scored 8.7 of 10 points. Here are all pros and cons they list:

Pros:
- Excellent typing quality.
- Exceptional ergonomic adjustments.
- Remarkably low wired latency.
- Lightweight, relatively low profile design makes it a more portable than many ergonomic models.

Are you a native speaker of #English? Maybe you can help! I'm looking for a proverb or idiom that has a similar meaning to a certain German one.

That proverb makes fun of / warns against project managers, and to understand it, you need to know that the German name of the "common brimstone" butterfly is (translated) "lemon folder".

Verbatim, it would go like this: "Whoever believes that project managers manage projects also believes that lemon folders fold lemons!"

Any idea?
