Also, there's only a single step from telling people to keep their own personal emergency resource kit, to telling them to barricade the house so the neighbors don't steal your supplies - which, considering that what *actually* helps in a crisis is community, is suicidal.

This kind of prepper advice may not be the same as telling people to stop climate change by sorting their trash at home, but it supports the same story of individualizing collective problems, making us all weaker.

I don't think we talk about this enough: Almost the entire digital economy is business models in opposition to what we want & are sold.

My go-to example is the dating app: They have no interest in you finding someone, because then you won't need the app anymore. Giving you good matches is also against their interests; the more you have to search, the more ads they can show you & the longer you pay the subscription.

Well, it's all like that. The platforms are against you.

Innit strange how these pesky technical problems always coincidentally help fascists & criminals & hurt everyone else?

Also: There's scant reason to believe that Dems will investigate this, let alone visit proportional consequences, unless they're absolutely forced to. If they wanted to act against this there's every reason to try to do so right now, publicly, as all of this is happening.

I don't know if anyone has head about that - I certainly haven't...

"The problem here isn't advertising, it's surveillance. The ad-tech sector has convinced advertisers that targeting ads to users rather than content will massively improve ad performance. The evidence for this is very poor: targeted ads improve clickthrough rates by less than 5% (relative to content-based ads that relate to the substance of the page you're looking at), and they're incredibly expensive (and very dangerous!) to serve." - @pluralistic

Also, is it not possible to enter corner radius for a node, is that option only available as long as you're working with a rectangle Shape™️?

Because I can think of quite a lot of scenarios where I would want to control the radius of corners of not-rectangles...

Managed to download the app 👍 unfortunately I'm literally 10 seconds in before I hit a major WTF!? 😂

To be fair, search is broken & I've only used this app for a few minutes, but with those caveats: Can it really be true that Inkscape doesn't have a "lock aspect ratio" option? Because I sure as shit can't find it.

I know you can lock aspect with a mod key, but what if I want to enter, say, the radius of a circle as a number - do I have to enter it twice?

Again: It's a little difficult to support Big Tech alternatives when this kind of thing keeps happening...

Really fun, of course - but also another confirmation for me that Linux just isn't ready for the real world.

Even discounting the current AI debacle, all signs indicate that for any foreseeable future Linux will remain a niche plaything for people who care about the OS & the computer itself, not a serious or reliable workspace for people doing other things.

Yes - but what will be much more important is for history to record that Americans voted for this twice, without resorting to the false narrative of "legitimate concerns over crime / immigration / cost of living"...

Look, I understand not wanting to vote for parties you don't agree with or like - hell, I was that guy.

But there's a difference between voting for someone who will probably burn your house down & someone who is actively setting it on fire RIGHT NOW - and if you think you're choosing neither you're carrying kindling for that latter guy.

Call me nuts but I don't think that's a very difficult choice.

I'm pushing 60 but that's still young enough that, barring an accident, I will get to see the post-oligarchy world. The current clusterfuck doesn't have generations of life in it - you can see the cracks widening in real time...

- and like @pluralistic I am hopeful. Remember, hope is not optimism; hope is looking what needs doing & making a plan.

The worst in us rules right now, but the best in us has overcome worse. Pop the bubble & let's get to work.

Once more with feeling: Systemic problems require systemic solutions.

Changing your habits barely helps you - if you want this to stop, you have to organize & resist together with other people.

Together we outpower them & they know it.

Reminder: In 3 years less than it has taken SpaceX to achieve this pitiful result, the Apollo program designed, built, tested & launched space vehicles which brought men into space a dozen times, including 6 successful Moon landings - and they did it without all the foreknowledge we have today & without computers, because they created both those things as part of the program.

It's almost like commercial motivation + the world's worst leadership = shitty results...

TIL of Bertha Benz who, If Carl Benz was the father of cars, was their mother & like so many mothers, she did crucial work only for her Man™️ to receive most of all of the credit.

In 1888 she perpetrated the world's first grand theft auto when she stole her husband's prototype & took it on the world's first road trip, during which she both affected repairs & collected important technical development knowledge.

Without her there would have been no Benz motor vehicles.

Only realized yesterday that this, while a necessary accessibility feature, is placed in a rather unfortunate way...

A blind person almost walked into me because I was blocking it & I really shouldn't do that, but as you see I'm not exactly alone... why was it put where people naturally stand, not where they naturally walk, more than likely turning it into an obstacle course?

Or am I missing something else?
