I asked Dr. Marten's customer support whether they call them Doc's internally. He said they do.
In case you ever wondered.

@north@xn–8r9a.com I bet that’s covered in the customer service FAQ in the three-ring binder that’s probably now an app
@north Do they make decent boots still? I haven't had a pair for, uh, some years. They were good then but I heard they changed ownership or something.
@cR0w Yes, but one of mine is having issues, so they're issuing a return (quite a bit past their return period). The leather is very stiff.
@north Oh nice. That's cool that they're taking care of you. Seems odd these days, even for boot manufacturers.
@cR0w My understanding is that they've always been a good company. The fascists were pissed at the company because they made LGBTQIA+ shoes and learned that they are very, very queer friendly. The /archive/ bothers me, but https://www.drmartens.com/us/en/archive/pride
"More than 30% of our global workforce identifies as LGBTQIA+ [...]"
@north That's really cool. TIL. I was worried about the quality going down but it's funny how most of the companies that have been on the side of good for that long seem to be less likely to sacrifice quality for more profit.
@cR0w Now the question is whether I want to get the same style or a different one. They were a gift, so I didn't choose.
@north I just looked and didn't realize there were so many models.
@cR0w Mine are the 1461 shoes. I'm going back and forth between the regular smooth and the mono smooth (probably the former, because color choices).

@north I don't know if it's regional but it says they're out of all but the black and the cherry in the regular smooth. I like the different color options. I don't need new boots but I'll keep them in mind in the future. I'd be curious if they seem as comfortable as I remember them.
@cR0w Yeah I'm noticing that... There's definitely a break-in period before the comfort comes, at least on the smooth.
