Occasionally I’m back on an older Intel-based Mac and it strikes me really how much better the Apple Silicon machines are. Still amazes me. Even 2020/21 M1 machines feel super snappy still.
And like snappy without even a fan coming on and barely getting warm
Are we sure that Johny Srouji didn’t get his hands on a Terminator chip from the future
Oct 14, 2026, 3:22 AM@thomasfuchs I think that often when new products come out. I'm sure it's just cleverness, but AirPods Pro - all that stuff jammed in such a small device, that lasts hours and hours. And way back, the iPod Shuffles.
@thomasfuchs no, that's obviously programmed in 6503 assembly for some weird reason.
Oct 14, 2026, 2:03 AM@thomasfuchs it’s pretty crazy. The only way I’ve ever heard the fan on mine is encoding H264 with Shutter Encoder
@thomasfuchs yes, I’m still very happy with my MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip.
Oct 14, 2026, 12:33 PM@thomasfuchs still snappy with M1, but more buggy recently. Though I have no other M-series to compare, could be a general macOS problem.
@tav Well, that's the software—and their software quality has generally gone worse over the last few years.
