Anyone know how to get the old MMO #Aion to work on #Linux ? Specifically #Nobara Linux.

I've done some searching and tinkering but I can find no options that work, and the suggested PlayOnLinux seems to be a dead end.

@ezlin Wasn't PlayOnLinux just a really really old WINE implementation from way back? Or is my memory just totally off-base?

But I guess modern WINE isn't working for you then?

@nazokiyoubinbou It's not. It'll install NCSoft's "Purple" but it fails silently. Attempting to run the executable does nothing.

Same when trying to run it via Steam.

@ezlin I assume you know about Protondb? protondb.com/app/261430

Only one tip seemed to jump out as recent enough to be relevant. One was a person saying to use an older version of Proton (they used 9.0.4) Another person said the Lutris installer was working for them though. lutris.net/games/aion/ Looking at it, there is nothing special in its installer except that it updates DirectX (not sure if this is still applicable) and these winetricks tasks: vcrun2008 vcrun2013 physx corefonts win7. (Or protontricks if in Steam.) Did you install those two runtimes? I could imagine if the software was really stupid it might not provide the error message that the runtime was missing. The win7 one might also be important.

Of course, Steam should have scripts to do that...
