@IceCubesApp Hey, can we get a patch to fix the order of the custom tabs? As you can see in this screenshot, the app seems to be placing them in its own order instead of the order I’ve specified.

This needs to be a video game.

Wait, Achilles wasn’t even in “The Odyssey”, was he?

You can also use a third-party tool called the RSS Parrot to turn any RSS feed on the web into a Mastodon account you can follow. Just send a message (public or private) to @birb with the URL of an RSS feed you want to follow.

Fun fact: Almost everyone on Bluesky has an RSS feed you can follow! Just open a Bluesky profile and add “/rss” to the end of the URL. If you see a feed, then you can send it to the RSS Parrot. It’s not as friendly as Bridgy, but it’s better than nothing.

Did you know that you can hide followed accounts from your home feed by adding them to a list? This means Mastodon works great as a newsreader:

1. Create a new list named “News”.

2. Set the list to “Hide these posts from home”.

3. Search for accounts to follow. You can find a lot of major news outlets by searching for profiles with “flipboard.com” in their name.

4. After you follow an account, select the action menu (three dots) from their profile page to add them to your News list.

My @actuallyautistic friends: Many of you have a collection of something that’s important and valuable to you. How would you feel if someone else in your family said they were going to pack that collection up and/or move it to another room without your input or supervision?

Edit: I didn’t mean they wouldn’t have your permission; just that you wouldn’t be involved in the actual relocation of the collection.

@actuallyautistic Oh, and King gets really tense when a patient’s mom suggests that a THC gummy might give her four-year-old #autism. It was nice to see pushback on that kind of nonsense, too. #ThePitt

@actuallyautistic Is anyone else watching “The Pitt” on (HBO) Max? It’s a new medical drama; the gimmick is that it’s being told in real time over a single shift, hour by hour.

But what’s caught my eye is an apparently #autistic character named Dr. King. We don’t know much about her yet, but it’s nice to see an autistic tv character who isn’t severe. Instead, King just has trouble getting jokes, overanalyzes her own emotions, and stims under stress.

Major holidays like #Christmas are a bit weird for @actuallyautistic folks, aren’t they? Because we like routine and consistency, and big family holidays are usually anything but.

Maybe that’s why I like walking my dog every morning after her breakfast. Even today, she expects the same thing she has every day, and no one else is awake yet in the house. It’s just the two of us, enjoying a nice quiet Christmas morning before the snow all melts away.

Okay, this is an idea whose time has certainly come: a PBS Kids' cartoon about neurodivergent kids, created by people who are either #autism experts or are @actuallyautistic themselves.

I have no idea what “the neurodiversiverse” is going to be about, but I want to find out.

I wish there was something like Patreon, but for wellness checks. Like, I don’t need your coffee money, but sometimes I’d like to hear a surprise voice on the phone saying, “Hey, this is your friend GlupShitto943 from Mastodon. How’s it going? Need to vent for a bit while I’m baking?” and then I don’t feel like I’m inconveniencing anyone when I do.

I honestly didn’t think we’d hear Harris take a strong position against the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza in tonight’s #DNC speech. So glad to have her on the record at last.

“The researchers found that [board] games help relieve social anxiety, which is experienced at higher rates in those who have #autism than in the general population. There's a rigid structure to proceedings, with less need to make small talk.”

@actuallyautistic

Does anyone else who’s @actuallyautistic get weirdly agitated on work holidays because their routine is thrown off? I’m here with basically an extra Saturday stuck in the middle of my work week, and I don’t have any plans so I don’t know what to do with myself this morning while everyone else is sleeping in.

“Okay, so you’ve made some bad decisions. You’ve hurt people. You’ve hurt yourself.

“You’ve stumbled through life from one self-inflicted disaster to the next without anything even approaching a plan.

“To which I say—welcome aboard.

“Maybe you’re not good… but you’re sure as hell good enough.”

#motivation #transformers

Neurotypicals: “This person likes me, so I’ll talk to them about things I find interesting.”

#Autistic people: “The only way this person will like me is if I don’t tell them about the weird things I find interesting.”

@actuallyautistic

@actuallyautistic Does anybody else here find that when they’re in a new place—a store, someone’s house, wherever—that they have an urge to walk all throughout the place and see where everything is?

I never thought about it before, but today I wondered if it’s because I unconsciously want to see all the distractions and novelties so they don’t, you know, distract me from what I’m supposed to be doing the rest of the time that I’m there. Just a little #ADHD self-management.
