16s agoThe headlight restoration on Frau Blucher was a success. They look great. I can't recommend this Cerakote kit enough. Sure I'll have to do it again in a few years, but whatever. I might not even have this thing then.

I used to wonder what was different aboit Jackie Chan's environment that his movies ended this way. While many (not all but still) traditional Hollywood action movies were so focused on the white male savior dude that can do everything, kill everything, fuck every woman, beat all the villains, but also be gentle and caring and so get the girl at the end...
That was before I knew about individualism and other ailments of the USian culture. About propaganda.

I used to think about some of the endings to Jackie Chan's movies. In a couple, even tough he defeated a big bad in a one-on-one fight, that wasn't the end of the movie. The movie ended on authority figures helping or even taking over what Jackie was doing. The hero didnt work ALL by themselves.
I guess it's easy to cynically misread these endings. But, I always took those endings to mean that "you need a village", you need more than a lone hero, you need people to effect the actual change.

the don’t-call-it-buffy vampire-themed episode was better than i remembered but they mostly seemed happy that buffy’s move to upn meant they could do it
22m agoI was an adult when I learned this fact because of course the southern American school system didn’t teach it
23m agoDid you know that around lynchings there would typically be people selling tacky souvenirs and lynching postcards. They treated an intense act of violent hatred as a tourist attraction.
And a lynching postcard is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a postcard photograph of a lynching, to be sent, collected or kept. Although illegal since 1908, they still went through the mail without much issue. And we have copies of them in museums today.
There are people who went to these lynchings who are still alive today, and likely still have these postcards too.
what is this ad trying to compel me to do exactly. no I am not going to click on it and find out what "CONNECT WITH AN IOWAN" means. I am simply Not going to do that
