I have to do boring stuff I don't want to do today and I put off yesterday .. reworking my leaderboard code. It's not the worst but it's a bit tied up. To support online leaderboards on different platforms it'd be better if it was properly generic/abstracted so I can just plug client-end leaderboard code into platform specific interface code and it'd just work. Right now it's not got any plumbing for that, so I need to get on that. Just.. 🥱

Day 5 has now been added to the countdown.

My next wallpaper was New Years 2026. I didn't go for a landscape or anything like that just something simple since the 2026 was the main theme. I did have fun going for a New Year Ball Drop sort of theme for the background though. Weird to think we are over halfway through 2026 already.

Submitted the MNOZ demo page to Steam for review today (yay!) and uploaded the first version of the demo build to start testing with... annnd hmm.. yeah, I've still got some work to do before it's ready to go!! (Where'd them bugs come from anyway?) But it is fun seeing it in the Steam client and having it feel less like I'm working on an endless tech demo and more like something that I'll actually release one day 🤣 🥳

i am constantly baffled by the lack of curiosity demonstrated by retro hardware enthusiasts who use llms to make their stuff. it's like... i thought we were here to understand how computers work from a historical and material perspective, in order to build a future for computation that empowers communities over corporate interests, and to redeem the knowledge bottled up in retro hardware design to enrich the commons. but no i guess you're here for the frisson of "lookie old thing does new thing"

A free demo game, my question is...

To leaderboard ONLINE, or to leaderboard OFFLINE only?

I want them to play the demo but I also want them to want to have reasons to buy the full version. And a leaderboard, that sort of feels like a full version feature? But having an online leaderboard for the demo makes it more fun for score chasers, right? And if they enjoy the demo maybe they'll buy the full one? Or maybe they'll enjoy the demo so much they don't need a full one? 🤔 Help me, fedifriends!
