Crap.

Big businesses do this strategy - take over a market, stop working on it, supress competition. See Microsoft, for instance internet explorer.

I never thought of it being applied to intellectual pursuits - also in pursuits of profits from market domination. What a dark thought.

Enjoy the most unhinged blog post I have ever written.

"Why The AI Determinism Argument Annoys Me"

My 9yo daughter said she wants to make a game with me, where she makes the art and I code it.
I said ok, and tasked her with making a standing/idle pose for the main character.
She delivered and wow, this is usable, actually. I have mixed feelings about it knowing what the life of a game artist (or a gamedev in general!) is like🙃

linux (x11 + opengl) is now in thanks to @lisyarus !

Hey All, I made a header only C++ library where it's 1 line of code to init, then you can start writing to pixels on the screen.

I call it thirteen.h, as it is inspired by the simplicity of the 13h days.

Examples include a mandelbrot viewer and a playable mine sweeper game.

This is for Gigi.
Currently, specifying shader dispatch size, or size of buffers and textures is done through an awkward property sheet.
You can also set variables to the values of simple expressions every frame through another awkward property sheet.
This stuff handles cpu side logic that normally goes with rendering techniques.
I want to replace those property sheets with a simple text based language to make it easier to work with, but also a bit more powerful.

I want to make a super simple c like language that allows expressions, assignments, conditionals, calling built in functions and reading/writing built in variables.
Would people recommend lexx/yacc (flex/bison) for this?
It seems doing that id be able to put in text and get out an AST or bytecode that I could then use to generate c++ or Javascript or interpret at runtime.
Im tempted to do this myself from scratch and i have done so in the past, but thinking maybe not this time.

The NES allowed circuitry in the cartridges, not just ROM. Itd be a trip to see a modern cart with raytracing support or similar.

@andrewhelmer47 The explanation is interesting too.
paraphrased "the least significant digits are said first, like "one and twenty" instead of "twenty one", so it's like Hammersley, but in base 10."

my god... sorting the numbers 0-99 in german makes a low discrepancy sequence. wtf.

Let's say I wanted to make my own programming language, and I didn't want it to compile to machine code, but wanted to write the logic for what it output.
What would a decent option for approaching this besides writing my own parser? :P
@lritter what are you doing for scopes?

Our cat is having a nap in the media cabinet?! He climbed in from the back.
