Random scumbag brain thought: are PAL, NTSC and SECAM still a thing today where HDMI is involved? Sorry this DVD is NTSC, your OLED based TV can't show this content

@nickfarr oh hi Nick! I didn't realize you were on masto, super long time no see, I hope you're doing well friend!

Apparently this was the *incredibly* useful fix: https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch-perl/pull/164/changes/bc2a8a359f47681aef2a2842f936f367a46a895f

Just had my first "thank you" cold email from an AI bro. Apparently something I posted on the Internet was useful to training their LLM. No I'm not going to name and shame because that's PR for them.

My reply:

Dear AI fan,

Never contact me again. I mean it.

I hope someday you come to your senses that people who release code freely *is to benefit people not robots or rent seeking corporations*.

You, and people like you are a plague on humanity.

This is getting REAL fucking obnoxious. Finally after like 16 years I upgrade my 4x 1920x1080 LCD monitors. Old ones were DVI+VGA+HDMI, new ones are Displayport + HDMI.

Apparently the new monitors *turn off* the HDMI and Displayport interface when they go into DPMS sleep mode.

Which means Windows 10 thinks the monitor is "unplugged", which not only causes the "you unplugged a device" sound, but also rearranges all my windows, sometimes off screen that I can't get a mouse cursor on them, where I have to use an Elder Greybeard Trick of "alt+space, m, tap an arrow key, move mouse" to drag them into the visible area.

Apparently this has been a problem for over a decade.

I hate software.

Oh. And this is why I hate AI so much. That's false competency.

I think it just clicked with me why I enjoy watching TubeTime, CuriousMarc electronics channels on YouTube, and woodworking channels like Paul Sellers -- it's *competency* porn. These folks are incredibly competent in what they do, I watch, and then suddenly feel like I can be just as competent.

Sadly, reality says otherwise :(

Remember kids, when your browser fetches HTML content from a website (regardless of what the site is) rendering any of that is _a suggestion_ and not a mandate.

Just open developer tools, find that annoying modal pop-over in the DOM and delete it.

https://www.vulncheck.com/blog/zbt-darklantern-speakingstone oh this is why USA said "fuck all chinese routers" a couple months ago

When you heard this sound coming out of the living room TV you knew you were going to get some quality edutainment.

@support @jerry hey I think something has gone wonky with the thing that does websockets that pushes updates to the local timeline view through the web UI, I don't get updates unless I refresh the whole web UI

Did anyone beside me just take their glasses off and try to clean them on their shirt only to discover it was ineffective?

god I love Slant3D videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnn4XeKQobs

Fucking FINALLY figured out how to froth milk correctly to draw a heart. I've been incorporating way too much air and turning the frothed milk thick which made it difficult to pour.

Anybody have experience in #failover #internet #gateway via bog standard #linux route/iptables etc? Asking because my brand new fiber internet that got installed 5 hours ago just suffered an outage. 😢

Every time I looked into this, it ended up being some complex "run a cronjob/shell script" hot mess.

It was a hot and sunny day today.

/cc @azonenberg for occasional solar metrics

> I forget how old you are, but if it's approximately the same high pitched constant wine you'd get from CRT TVs, that very well might be it

Ah, yes; references to technology the Young(s) simply won't get

Apparently Qilin is in the news, here's a de-confliction chart.

Any time I see the word "badger" I now struggle with the spelling because of @bagder 's handle.
